I had always used the top filling method in my Canon cartridges, and liked the idea of trying other methods to see if there was a better way to do the same job.
I poked a hole in a clean spare BCI-6 Magenta cartridge with the awl, it was much easier that I expected.
I only have 40 & 80 mm needles so I used the 80 one again no problems pushing it through to the ink compartment and filling it up in two gos all most full.
I removed the needle and very surprised to see no leaks at all, I thought bloody marvellous.
I left the cartridge stand for over a week and pop it in the printer when I ran out of ink.
After about six sheets the magenta started to fade so I had to replace it with another spare cartridge to finish what I was printing.
So any guesses as to what could have gone wrong.
I am so pleased with the new way of filling but I must have made an arse of something somewhere along the way (Im Stumped) H e l p ..

Yes: the refilled cart should be stored airtight after refilling (tupperware or any small air tight plastic box). There is some drying up of ink in your sponge if you leave it as such in open air. Watch out if this happen to pigment ink, it can be very annoying.

Sometimes I inject some extra ink in the sponge to get an extra soaking when the saturation degree is a bit low (especially with completely dry carts, but then I would give it a flush before refilling and condition it with my magical conditioning solution).

Am I the only one to have this mental image of a wizened old sorcerer type casting spells over his cartridges while muttering incantations against OEM prices?

:p

I can picture the character Smeagol/Gollum from The Lord of the Rings holding a freshly flushed and conditioned Canon cartridge saying "My preciousssss".
