Now that I have figured out how to disassemble the Epson B271A Picture Mate personal photo lab I need to find the full waste ink pad(s). Looking from the side there is a foam pad in the center under the path where the photo paper would travel. Looks like it may contain waste ink that may be pumped into it. I may need to disassemble the printer some more to get the wedged foam ink pad out. If it's full, it could be messy pulling it out from the side. Does any one have any idea if this is it and the best way to get it out?

Here are instructions on replacing the waste ink pads for a Canon printer. It might be similar to an Epson printer and it might give you some idea of what you're facing.

I'm guessing that the foam pad that you are talking about is similar to the one in the Canon printer and is not really part of the waste ink pads but merely acts as a buffer for the overspray during borderless printing. But part of the waste ink pads are just below it. Good luck.

ghwellsjr, thanks for the info. You're right about the foam pad in the center it only has a little bit of ink. After sending the first post I tried lifting the pad up to see if it contained ink lower part. I was really surprised to find it was a very thin pad with no waste ink. Just as you said in this post. Some of the instructions on the Canon are similar, but I will need to make a guess in taking more parts off to get into the center. I was really wondering what to do with the ink cartridge and jets that could clog up exposed to the air. But the Canon instructions has a method the should work with this one, as well. I can not believe how well hidden the overflow pads are in this printer. I can't believe Epson would say to buy a new printer when the ink pads are full. This is still a new printer and only got this way from cleaning. Thanks
