Hi guys, I am a graphic designer and planning to buy one of these to print my portfolio (brochures, stationery sets, flyers etc) .

I know these are both photo printers and I'm familiar with the postscript rip issue. Which one do you recommend for printing graphic design work.

2. Which Epson paper should I buy so that the brochures look professional?

Thanks alot!

Adrian, I do not understand why you are talking about the i9950 and asking for the apropriate Epson paper........
The R1900 has the advantage of archival pigment ink, but the Canon i9950 makes more beautiful glossy prints even if you take into account that the R1900 has a gloss optimiser.

I'm using an i9950 printer with Hobbicolors UW-8 ink and I'm still astonished by the beauty and richness of the colours everytime I make a print. But for you the R1900 may be a better choice, since the prints are waterproof. On the right paper, the i9950 can make waterproof prints as well.

I'm not sure if the i9950 is available, Canon quit making that printer awhile back. Their new printers are Pixma Pro 9000, it uses the same print head as the i9950. It uses the new Chroma Life dye inks. The Pixma Pro 9500 uses 10 pigmented inks. It has a Matt Black, Photo Black and Gray cartridges including the C, M, Y, PC, MC, R and G.

The Pro 9500 would be your best bet if you are a professional, however, it comes with a large price tag.

Adrian, I just tried to compare these two printers by reviews.
Okay. Here are the results:

Epson Stylus Photo R1900
Score: 9.1 out of 10 based on reviews from 51 sources in 17 countries.

Canon Bubble Jet i9950
Score: 8.9 out of 10 based on reviews from 24 sources in 8 countries.

So as you can see yourself the best score has the first one.
As for me - I'm totally agree with the crowd
