I see the Epson 1100 Workforce wide format inkjet on sale at a local Staples ($99).

Are the carts refillable? Are they chipped? Any comments on the quality of the output?

All of them! LOL
Yes, they are chipped I think they are T069? Pigment based? Unlike Canon carts, Epsons are more dificult to fill but not impossible. Fortunatelly many providers have 3rd party solutions for that printer. There are CISS and refill systems available.

It's a great printer, built like a tank and should serve you for a very long time. Remember, that the best way to keep a printer healthy and happy is to PRINT with it often.

I bought one for my daughter and she just buys refilled carts from a company at about $2.95 each. She does not want to do her own refilling,,,, even after I offered!

For those of you who have used this printer with OEM or refill pigments, how well does it do cyan/blue printing? I bought a C88 (and exchanged it for a C88+ when it broke down for some reason) and with both the OEM carts and Image Specialists pigment refills it couldn't do bright blue/cyan. The only color even remotely close to bright blue was "faded navy". All colors were a little dark but it was useless to me since everything I printed that was supposed to have bright blues was dull and dark. I switched to an an R220 which had no problem doing nice bright cyan even with pigment inks. I always thought this was due to having a light cyan tank but some people have said that it does not use the light cyan on plain paper settings and doesn't use the regular cyan on photo prints.
