Solved. Originally asked if the wf-7840 and the et-16650 were technically the same printer (but one being an ecotank). Answer is: Yes, they are literally the same printer, but one has a built in CISS. Exact same print head and that's where it counts.
In contrast, there is the et-15000, which is "touted" as the go-to 13x19 printer that's also useful for t-shirt transfers (siser easycolor etc)... I decided NOT to go with the et-15000 because the claim is that it has an inferior print head (1 chip for black, 1 chip for CMY) where the 7840 and 16650 have a 4 chip print head (one for each color), and a lot more nozzles to spare.
As for dpi, et-15000 is 1200 dpi and et-16650 is 2400 dpi. 2400 is technically overkill, however the idea (supposedly) is that it prints quicker as there are more nozzles on the head and all colors print at once (per swipe of the head). Not sure if that has any merit, but that is a claim that some stand by.
