Someone's just bought 5 empty CLI cartridges on Ebay UK for 12-99 + 1.50 postage That's nearly 3 ($4.75) for each empty cartridge. I bet the seller thinks it's Christmas.

I hate to say it, but Canon Chips do cost a little bit. I wouldn't spend 3 each on them, but someone else with a chip reseter might. Aftermarket chips IIRC are about 1/2 that price.

Wow 14.50 for 5 a set of 5 carts. I'm sure you can buy 3rd Party carts with inks for less than that...hold on...

[at this point froggy surfs to a well known uk ink supplier]

OK, I was wrong, you can get a full set of 3rd party chipped ink carts for 15.30 inc. But then you don't know how long term refillable they are, or how good the Swissink brand really is (subtle cue there) But better value I'm sure.

I will admit to buying a set of 5 canon empties for 6.34 off ebay, now reset, flushed and refilled (with the Sudhaus ink that came with the Redsetter)and awaiting the ultimate test in the printer. 1.27 a cart, I can live with that.

I've been looking at eBay recently, and there has been a number of bulk sales of empty cli8 and PG5 (like 40 or 50 mixed carts) over the last few weeks. Now I'm noticing the next stage, there is a lot of sales for sets of 5, with a 1.99 P&P

On eBay, empty canon carts are an ideal ebay item, as they have a relatively high value to weight ratio.

You can get them from here for less than 14.50

However, like you I prefer the Canon empties. Got 28 for 16.50 off Ebay recently.

I have been also been buying Canon Empty Carts from e-bay , (and monitoring prices) , I have been working on a cost that I am willing to pay (including the postage) of 70-80p per cart , recently some sellers have failed to attract bids because (carts/postage) starting prices were way above this "sensible " level , especially the small lots.

Sorry, Wilko, don't want to be pedantic, but if you add the p&p in as well, it's above 14.50

To Headphonesman, I'd love to buy a large lot but I cannot justify it, like what an I going to do with 50 x PGI5bk carts or 40 mixed colour carts? I'm already under pressure to downsize my "collection of computer junk" as it is :p If you do a load of printing or buying for a group of local friends, then sure. But your guide of 70-80p will be taken on board.

Now, the very definition of "high hopes" and one we should put on the watch lists for morbid curiosity:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Canon-Black-P...14&_trkparms=72:1301|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

Surely no-one will take the bait?
