I am working to create a CMYK profile for a RIP. Is there relatively inexpensive software that will permit me to measures a CMYK target to end up with CMYK measurement data? Also, where can I find CMYK targets? I am going to be using Copra to generate the profile.

That’s not going to be easy to do because you’ll also need an App. that can print to CYMK and then trying to use a RIP to force a Canon printer to switch is near next to impossible.

Good luck with your quest, in fact you might be better off using’s an Epson printer for that..

I sm using a new Epson 3880 Designer version that comes with the EFI Fiery RIP. Now, my needing "an app that can print to CMYK" means what? Doesn't the RIP do this? I can see where I need an app to generate CMYK measurements for the profiling software. There must be a relatively inexpensive tool that will allow me to do this.

Thanks!

ArgyllCMS does the trick and it is completely free.

Yes, I will look into ArgyllCMS for my purposes. My limited impression is that this software is powerful but requires allot of study. I do not see much use of it on the forums regarding the measurement of CMYK targets, so there are not many real world examples to go by. But ArgyllCMS is powerful and free. So I will look into it.

I have been scouring the Internet for solutions. So far, I see that BabelColor may have dome inexpensive options. Has anyone used their software? It is unfortunate that there is no freely available utility that can convert Lab to CMYK. But I suspect this capability would not be as straightforward as it may seem on the surface.
