I need a new CD printing capable printer. I have 2 options:
- Pixma IP-7220 (or 7270 in Asia) using CLI-726 cartridge
- Pixma multi-function MG-5420 (or 5470 in Asia) using CLI-751 cartridge

Which cartridge is better for refilling ? Which one has more ink capacity ?
Very little info on the differences between the 2 cartridges. They both look very much the same.

The CLI-726 and CLI-751 are completely different cartridges and you shouldnt get them mixed up.

The 751 carts that come with MG 5420 printer are only start-up carts and hold very little ink
in them and the chips on these carts are not resettable.

The 725 carts do hold more ink than the 751 start up carts and you can reset the chip on them
so it would be the best one for refilling; here is a link on how to refill..

Thanks for the answer. Exactly the info I'm looking for.
It's unfortunate there is no resetter for CLI-751 carts. I already have Canon 4200F scanner. I just thought it would simpler for me to have the scanner right on top of the unit.
Well, in that case, I would definitely go with IP-7220. I'll just reuse my old Canon scanner.
Good info. Thank u.

I think you better checkout that printer before you buy because I reckon it uses 751 and not the 725 carts, please double check.. :ep

Oopss I was wrong. You're right. I notice my mistake 10 min even before you warned me.

I got mixed up. Both printers apparently use the non-resetabble CLI-751 carts.
I must have seen CLI-726 in another. Too many models & carts on Canon website, and I must have got confused.

And the Bad news.
It seems I can't get older models using CLI-726 since they are all out of stock (I just called Canon).
I hate everytime I want to buy a new printer, I will have a headache.
They definitely know how to make our life difficult, don't they ?

Now, I have start from scratch again, and it seems I'm running out of option.
God, I really hate this. Damn you Canon !!!

Please let us know how it goes.
Can we just disable Ink Monitor & continue printing even when the cart is empty ? I know this is possible with previous model.
I'm worried that one day they won't let Ink Monitor be disabled, therefore we are doomed to buy new carts if there is still no resetter for the printer.

What will happen if Ink Monitor is disabled, and accidentally re-enabled, so the printer knows the carts are actually empty. Can we still disable Ink Monitor & force it to print ?

Yes you can disable the on board ink monitoring and continue to print once you have refilled the cartridge again.

The 4 carts total weight are 25 gm new and 42 gm for the PGBK so youll have to regularly weight your carts
to make sure that you dont ever run out of ink, and I reckon you should refill when the cart reaches 5 gm and no lower.

Once you disable the ink monitoring it stays disabled till you buy a new OEM cart and insert that,
it cant re-enable itself by accident.

Canon inc. are prevented from stopping this practice of the print owners disabling their ink monitoring
when their cartridge is registering out of ink, but we dont know what other procedures they can use in the future, time will tell..

Thanks for the info.
I'm still considering MG5470 as an option. Currently looking several models from Epson as alternative too.

Both are easy to refill and are filled the same. The 225/226's hold more ink, 19ml Black, 9ml for photo black and the colors.
You might want to consider a chip resetter for these carts.
