Canon MP640: I've done several deep head cleans but my colours are still printing with streaks

Does this indicate a a fault with the ink carts or the print head?

My printer is still under Canon warranty - should I request for the problem to be fixed?
I would have to incur the charge of sending the printer to their approved repair centre

Thanks

Omar

Hi Omar
You dont give us enough information to give you a definitive answer.
Can you please post a nozzle check and more info like when did this problem start are you refilling using OEMs which method etc.

Doing continual deep head cleans does nothing at all to solve your print problem except waste your ink
a standard clean is usually sufficient to clear most clogs.

It may not be your print head thats at fault so don't do any more printing other than nozzle checks till it's resolved.

i refill using german method and inks *always* purchased from octoink

i noticed the problem 2 weeks ago - this was the same time i refilled funnily enough
too much of a coincidence? i can only confirm this by thinking back

i didn't bother about it until a week ago

i've printed maybe 10 times on maybe 50 sheets so far
have stopped printing following ur comments

let me know what u think

thanks

OK Omar,
To be blunt and honest I think your print head is dead bang down the hole.
You could however continue to use it for just text printing but even then that might kill your logic board after a time too.

The main problem with a Canon print head is that if it suffers from partial or no ink flow through the print head
for a short period of time then it tend to heat up and fry the little ink nozzles.

Thats why it is imperative to stop all printing till you can diagnose the problem and put it right again
and in your case you didnt spot it in time so thats the reason I suspect its permanently damaged.

In many cases a clog can accrue from leaving your printer unused for some time or not having all of the cartridges fitted
in the print head and the inlets dry out or usually even a poorly refilled cartridge.

If you have a set of original Canon cartridges you may be able to send them back with the print head and not the whole printer,
depending on which Canon service centre you use, saying that Canon service is usually crap anyway so dont hold your breath sorry.. :(

If you haven't given the printhead a soak in windex or equal, you ought to give it a try. I would.
