My printer just stopped printing yellow and black on most photos. It will print the yellow lines at the top of the nozzle test, but no yellow blocks below and it won't print yellow or black on the head alignment page. On that, I get only cyan and magenta alighment blocks. Anyone know what is happening? It has worked for a couple of years without problems. I have Canon inks except for the black, which is from Staples. I put in a new yellow, but that did not help. I don't see a good way to get the head off without really taking apart more than I would want to. I can get the top cover off and have figured out the buttons. Main light is green all the time.

Well, I finaly wised up and just took out the ink carts and lifted the print head out. But after a cleaning in contact cleaner, it still does not print black or yellow as I described above. Any suggestions?

As a follow-on. When cleaning I noticed that a tissue did pull all colors out of the head except black. Even if the black is clogged, would it not print yellow?

this probbaly the LOWEST price u will find for a NEW genuine Cnaon printhead. I have a IP3000, had head problems after hundreds of prints, fixed it...but now my S600 after several years is starting to give me problems...but it's done more than it's worth....paid for itself in NO TIME! so i don't care..will probably get another head for it for a backup printer. inks is so redicously cheap for canons...cannot get ANY cheaper.

if you tried running the head cleaning and still not getting better...then maybe search some old3er posts about cleaning etc and go from there... could also be the purge unit/lines???

I did get it, finally, to print black for a while, then it started to sort of fade out. So, I got a real Canon black cartridge (had been using a Staples brand black), and everything started to work just fine. I guess it was the cheapo brand ink. All of which makes me leery of refilling the tanks. Thanks for your suggestions, I will check into the head replacement, as I would not be suprised to see problems crop up again. I had no idea there was a site like this one until I started having problems. Seems there are lots of folks out there with printer headaches.

Maybe the quality of the ink you use is not good enough. And it has made the print head stuffed.

sounds like you are having the same problem that I had with my ip3000. purge unit/lines were clogged from the black pigment cartridges i was using for a while (they were cheapies, $1.00 cart from www.summitimage.com). When using aftermarket ink etc, should go in expecting things not to be perfect as if paying premium for genuine. but even until the printer gave me problems...i still got my moneys worth from it using cheapie ink....and now that i know how to fix it, when the problem arises again, will just fix it myself.

Ihad the same FADING black problem. Would think i had the noizzles cleared, it would print black for the forst print thena bout 4 more prints, it gradually faded to nothing (the paper with no in k on it).

Seems the purge unit / lines PRIME the cartridge by creating suction (kinda like when you siphon gas into a tank with a hose). You will notice that the capping station where the hard aborbtion pads/filters are. That probably one or both (1 for black, 1 for color (CMY), have flooded with ink. If the priming isn't SUCKING that INK through them...the lines and/or puge unit is clogged. My color section was sucking the ink through..while the black was puddling up unitl i tore down, and used syringe with warm water to unplug purge unit/lines...then suction was back...and no problems since.

here is some more info... even though u are using a s600....should be somewhat similar in operation.
