I have a Canon ip4000. It has stopped printing with the error message "Operator error.
Press the printer's RESUME button.
If this doesn't clear the error, cancel printing and turn the printer off and then on again."

I have removed and replace all 5 ink tanks with no succes
I have removed and reseated the print head with no success

I found a manual which says that the error is 5 amber flashes and then green flash of the main power LED which indicates a probelm with the print head - but I see nothing wrong. Any suggestions as to what I can try next

Many thanks

Sadly this error message most likely means the print head has become defective. Canon print heads can fail for no apparent reason, especially if old, and this printer is old.

Only a new print head might bring the printer back to life, but replacing the print head is a risky procedure, as there is a risk that the defective print head has damaged the logic board in the printer, and a damaged logic board can damage the new print head. See this: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3975

I guess "the other manual" means the service manual, if not you will find one here: http://www.timtaylor.net/tech/iP4000 Service Manual.pdf

So replacing the print head is a gamble, you might be lucky, but I think I would not take the risk. Also see this thread, and specially note post #4: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=8571
