Canon Pixma IP5300 printhead

My Pixma IP5300 bought in 2007, has stopped printing and sends the message "No printhead installed", when the printhead is clearly there. I have used non-Canon ink cartridges of various makes and recently installed some refillable ones.

Before finding this forum, I had removed the printhead, cleaned it, rinsed it through with warm water and replaced it but it still says there is no printhead installed.

Can anyone advise what I can do to try to fix the printhead before buying a new one?

There is nothing else you can do, the print head has had it, deceased and a replacement is the only answer sorry..

Can you advise the best (cheapest) supplier for a new one? I'm not sure where you are; I live in Malaysia but have friends in UK and USA who could receive and forward a replacement.

You could have your friends in the US check Craigslist for a used printer and just send the printhead. Printers with the same printhead as the iP5300 are the iP4500, MP610, MP810 and MX850. I checked Craigslist in Malaysia for you but none are posted.

I'm in the process of doing the same for a backup for my iP4500 as I've used up my spares.

Another thing to is have your friends check Goodwill. It's about time for these printers to be showing up there. I'm going to start doing that myself.

I have found the least expensive supplier of Canon Print heads is the Canon Parts Department in the USA.

Turbguy: I couldn't contact Canon USA as I'm in the Philippines at the moment and they only give 1-800 number on their website; I can't phone that from here.
The Hat: Amazon UK was pretty expensive but thanks for the info.
Peter BJ: I contacted CRC Tasktron and they WILL send the printhead abroad, so I've ordered it from them. Their post charge is 20 pounds - a bit steep but it still works out cheaper than buying one in Malaysia.

I also found this company: http://officestoredepot.com/ which has the printhead for about the same price as CRC Tasktron and their shipping was cheaper but they couldn't guarantee delivery by September 4 when I get back to Malaysia. So i ordered it from CRC Tasktron.

Hopefully, my printer will be fixed on 4th September!
