Hi there,
First post.

I have a Canon ip7250 printer. Got a piece of paper stuck badly behind the print head carriage and in my enthusiasm seem to have knocked out one of the small cables. It is the cable that runs from the back to the front on the right hand side of the carriage. There does not appear to be any easy way to access the area in order to reseat the cable. I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get it back in place. It probably requires some taking apart of the printer because it is a very awkward place to get to. thoughts?

Thanks in advance

OK. So I read the first post advice and have rewritten my post with as much information as possible.

My Canon iP7250 has stopped working. Everything works OK except I get the message on screen that the printer is unable to access the Ink Cartridges and suggest that I check them. However, I believe the problem relates to a cable that has come loose.

I first noticed the issue when I went to use the printer after clearing a paper jam. The sheet of paper was very caught up behind the print head carriage. I had to move the print head to one side to clear all the paper as it was tearing off in pieces. I shoved it to the left and was unable to bring it back when the paper jam was cleared. So I grabbed what I could on the side of the carriage and the cable came loose. It is the small cable that runs from the back to the front on the right hand side of the carriage when facing the printer. It has a small connector on the end and it came out of its socket. The location of the socket means that I cannot manage to reseat the connector.

Is there anyone who knows how to get access to the underside of the print carriage? Are there any instructions available that would show me how to take the printer apart to the point where access to the scoket is made easier.

Like I said, its a Canon iP7250. I have it about 5 months. I use it most days for some paperwork. Mostly used by family for pictures, schedules ets. Having read the other thread about this model I think I may consider getting another printer for everyday use since I am forever buying those expensive cartridges. I don't have the time to self refill so probably best to get a functional printer for paperwork. I am open to recommendations.

It was a stupid thing to do. I used to run IT Helpdesks and it is a cardinal sin to grab a cable. But that was a long time ago......

You got a real big problem and the only answer to it is to send the printer back to Canon service.:barnie

The printer is still under guarantee and it wont cost a great deal to have it fixed
but there are other cost to consider like parts and postage.

I suggest you go and buy another iP7250 and keep your current model for spare parts
that would probably be the cheapest and quickest option for you
or better still invest in a better bigger printer with lower running costs sorry..

Thanks for the response.

I think I am going to invest in a better printer with lower running costs. I would like it to be colour but would keep it to plain paper printing activities. I am interested if there is a recommendation of a standout printer. Is there a specific thread for such discussions or should I open one to get feedback from the community?

I will endeavour to take the ip7250 apart at the weekend and see if I can reseat the connector and provide that for photo printing. But I will leave the replenishment of cartridges to the gang using it.

When you said you dont have the time to refill I took that as you wouldnt have the time to pull the printer apart either sorry.

A good all rounder to get would be a pro 9000, it is an A3 printer but dont let that get in the way
of your thinking that you dont need an A3 printer, it still works great just doing A4 stuff.

Its more expensive to buy but the running costs are far cheaper than the little 7250 are
plus it would be ideal for the rest of your gang, they would really love it to bits.

Here is a thread of someone in a similar situation to your dear yourself,
its worth a read and if that doesnt convince you then maybe go for a colour laser.

Hi there,
Thanks for all the help with this. Just to let you know that I figured out how to get at the Print Head Carriage. The cover is fairly straight forward and the entire upper shell comes off in one go. It took two of us to achieve this since there are a number of different plastic catches that must be "popped" in order to get the cover off. If you look around either side of the device you will see a few catches that you can pop with a small flathead screwdriver. The catch - excuse the pun - is at the front under the door that gives access to the Print Cartridges. On either side you will find deep vertical recesses with catches in them. Loosen all the other catches with your screw driver, you will assistance to prevent these from closing, and then open the ones in the front recesses and the top just pops off. Its straightforward to put it back on too.

As with any plastic the key is to be gentle as possible and not too forceful. Also, be careful when removing the top as it has a small cable for sensors linked to it via a connector on the logic board. It is straightforward to reseat as part of putting the shell back on.

Apologies for no images in this post but if anyone wants more detailed information then please feel free to ask.

Glad you were able to resolve everything...

If you do develop a guide that shows how to release everything and resolve the problem then I'm sure Rob would be happy to host it for the next poor soul venturing into hair pulling territory with this printer.
