Hello Friends,

First sorry for this long message.
After about 15 months , I have a problem with my Canon IP3600.
The story is that in recent 3 months , I had problem with yellow on my printer.Recently I had not yellow on my prints many times and I had to do many cleanings / unplugging catrrige and plug it again and... to solve this problem.
Finally 3 days ago , I decided to clean all ink system in my printer. So I unplugged CISS cartriges and print head and wash all of them with warm water(not too hot) in bath. After cleaning , I plugged them again and I got new problems :
I got many air in CISS tubes so I solve this through regular methods. The main problem is that I missed both yellow and PGBLK on my prints and nozzle checks totally.Cleaning also could not help.Meanwhile I had no error on my printer and it shows everything is fine. Other colors work regularly.I also reset waste ink counter but nothing happened. When doing cleaning , I see magenta and cyan are on waste pad and also I guess that blk is ok too because it is on my prints but It seems that yellow and PGBLK are not draining into head at all and so are not printed.
As I said I used CISS ink system and I installed it when I purchased printer.

Any Idea is appreciated.please help!!! :(
Is there any electronic fault possible? I had no error message.

Thnks.
Omid

Hi Omid,

Now you’re not going to like this one little bit so don’t go biting your tongue.

The fact that you continued to print while you have one or more of your colours missing then it’s almost a certainly that you have burned out your print head on those missing colours.

The print head can get damaged very quickly when there is no ink inside it to keep it cool and what you have describe that is exactly what’s happened to yours.

In you attempt to run your printer more economically you installed a CISS but they are not the cheapest or the best way to run a printer safely as you are finding out now.

First things first don’t print another sheet with the printer till you have sorted out your problem, so remove the CISS completely, and clean up any mess you have made and make sure the CISS bottles don’t continue to leak ink.

Remove the print head and soak it in 5 cm of window cleaner or washing up liquid and warm water then leave it there for 24 hours, you may still be able to save this print head but only time will tell.

I would suggest you dump your CISS unit and not use it again and switch to refilling your old OEM cartridges that came with your printer or if you don’t still have them then to get a set of compatible cartridges with ink in them just to get you going again, (Don’t attempt to refill the compatibles).

Clean the print head with a cloth and put it in a warm place for an hour or two to dry then put it back into the printer with the new cartridges, now this is important run a head clean and then a nozzle check if the print out is not good then repeat the same again and can you upload the nozzle check so we can examine it in more detail here.

That will do for now till you report back..

Dear "The Hat"

Thanks.I will follow the instructions and back to you with results. But before that there is an update regarding this printer that I would like to have your comments on it.
3 days after I washed the print head , PGBLK appeared again on nozzle check almost in good condition. There was also some weak signs of yellow (Very weak just a thin yellow line not all yellow part) on nozzle check. but after some nozzle checks PGBLK and yellow disappeared again and now I have not them again. As you said that the print head may be burned , could this be a good news meaning print head still is working?

In fact I think there may be problem draining ink into head also. The reason is that when doing cleaning , air bulbs in CISS tubes , moves very hardly in case of other colors but in case of PGBLK and yellow , bulbs are completely not moving at all. I dont know what type of pupming mechanism is in printer. But it seems that it is not working same as before or its working not good.I dont know why.I also clean waste pads by windex but results is nothing. In case of other colors like red , ink is moving in tubes and I see their signs on waste pad but not as strong as before but in case of yellow and PGBLK , ink not moving at all.Do you have any idea in this regard too?

Thanks for sharing your useful comments :)

BR,
Omid

Actually, most Canon Printers can reset their own waste pads if you know how to use/enter the printer's service mode.

Please post a nozzle check image here so we can start to get a better idea of your complaint. We may ask for a service test print as well, but let's see a nozzle check first.

A CIS system on a Canon printer can be very tricky to successfully operate. There is no "pump" that moves ink from the CIS to the printhead, but just displacement of ink as it is "spit" out of the nozzles during printing. A cleaning operation makes use of a vacuum pump that draws a light vacuum on the printhead while at the cleaning ("purging") station, and that's about all the "motive power" a canon printer operates with. There must be a solid column of ink between the nozzles and the ink supply chambers above them to operate.

That being said, I agree with The Hat's suggestion for cleaning the printhead.
