Canon has discontinued this model and no longer sells parts for it. I need a set of "Waste Ink Absorber Pads" to fit the ip3000... Anyone know of a source?

Hi ccfred

You find a .rar archive here, containing parts catalog and two service manuals for Pixma 3000 here: http://elektrotanya.com/canon_pixma_ip3000.rar/download.html . For download instructions see this: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=61324#p61324

Maybe some Canon parts numbers will help in a Google search for new absorbers?

Druckerchannel.de has these excellent instructions in English for changing the absorbers: http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=1831&t=workshop_change_waste_ink_tank_canon_pixma_ip4000 . The instructions are written using a Pixma 4000, but also apply to the Pixma 3000.

If you cannot obtain new absorbers, the used absorbers can be washed and dried and reused. It is a messy job though. Maybe someone who has done this cleaning has some instructions?

You can use the instructions in the service manual to reset the absorber counter and continue printing, without changing or cleaning the absorbers. This is not recommended as you risk a nasty ink spill if the absorbers overflow. Some say that you can reset the waste ink counter once and get away with it. I wouldn't dare doing that.

See page 9 and on in one of the service manuals for service mode operations and reset procedure.

Theres no problem reusing your old soiled pads,
with a quick wash and dry they can be put straight back in again,
but dont over dry just reinstall them slightly damp for a perfect fit.. :)
