I haven't used my canon printer pixma ip1880 for about 2 weeks now, but when i need to use it, i found out that the black cartridge is not printing, the color is fine no problem, i tried cleaning it in normal and deep head clean but no difference, so what i did is remove the black ink from the cartridge and began pumping out any gooey stuff formed inside the tank, but there isn't any, the cartridge is clean.
I have reseated the ink full with black ink in the printer, upon print testing there is black but whenever i print photos or text there is none, black only comes out if i do a print test in the nozzle check in the printer's maintenance software.
Thank u in advance :D

btw i just formatted my computer and installed Windows 8 in it.

If you tell your printer that you are printing on plain paper, will it use the black ink?

Thank you for the immediate reply :) i tried loading in a plain paper but setting it in the printer as photo paper and the quality to high, yes it prints black :) but setting it again to plain paper prints nothing but color.

The best suggestion I can make is to get another new black cartridge and use that while you try and sort out the current one.
Try placing your cartridge in a saucer of warm water for a few minutes and see if that will get the ink flowing again..:)

I'll try that but buying a new one is.. i'm broke :D as soon as the black runs out of ink again, i will definitely do that method, for now i'll have to set the plain to "photo paper" everytime i print.
Thanks guys ;)

Telling your printer that you are printing on photo paper will cause your color cartridge to run out very quickly so save up enough money to buy both cartridges.

Do you still get a good black nozzle check even after you get no black on plain paper?

I still perform nozzle check on plain paper, i get black, but none if i try to print from mspublisher or print some graphics/cartoons for print sample. I don't know the reason why it's doing it but i really don't know :p i would like to do what Hats suggests but i don't have the financial means to buy a new cartridge for now.

If youre not getting any black when attempting to print graphics/cartoons
then that with be down to the Tri cartridge and the black one at all.

Its more than lightly that you have run out of yellow ink so the only way to resolve your problem
is I am afraid to buy a new Tri colour cartridge sorry..:(

Oops sorry what i meant is whenever i print on plain paper black is not present, but colors are fine, however, when i print again with the plain paper and set it to photo paper, both black and tricolors are good. I don't have issues with the color inks only black. setting the printer to print in plain paper will cause the black ink not to print, but when i do a nozzle check test print the black and color are fine o_O it's kinda confusing, i dont know how to solve this problem, only when i get another black cartridge will answer this but at this point i don't have money.

So is there any point in telling you to save up your money for the future and get a Canon printer
with individual cartridges so you would be able to refill them as a cheaper alternative..
