HI,
I'm running my spare Pro 100 (that I bought sans print head) with the print head from my first machine. I'm now getting B200 codes somewhat frequently. I have have <200 prints on this machine. I'm thinking of buying a new print head for it. I am afraid to invest too much in it. I don't want to go the refurbished route..
Please advise...

Hi @danno, I got mine (some) years ago, when Canon, or some Vendor, seemed to be selling off old stock PRo-100 for $50. I bought two of those. I live in Canada, so I had them shipped to Sweet Grass near the Canadian border in Montana. There was somebody that would store them for a small charge. Then, on one of my frequent trips from Calgary to Great Falls I would pick them up. That's how I managed to get my supply of print heads. One of those now has no print head, the other replaced mine when the print head cable broke on my original.

Anyway, I don't know how they did that, because now any of the used PRO-100 seem to be selling on eBay for the equivalent of "new" printer prices. I would not buy those. BUT, and that is a big but, I don't know if I would like any of the new wide carriage models. It has to do with Canon policy on what they let the user do with ink cartridges. Canon is rather restrictive. Brother opened that up, but in testing I did not get such a good result as Canon. Good luck. Please keep us updated in what you finally did. It will be interesting.

I once read on the forum that in the US the best place to buy Canon spare parts is Canon, See this and this.

The only sure way to get a genuine new print head is from a Registered Canon stockist, or as @PeterBJ suggested Canon.com, never take the easy route and buy a refurbished head, because they are all useless and not worth the money.. But beware new heads are not cheap anymore..

I certainly agree with @PeterBJ and @The Hat, that the best place to bye Canon part is Canon. But Canon also stops handling parts on item they consider obsolete. At that point they sell off their stock, and let "others" handle them.

I don't know if that's the case with the Pro-100, but it sure was the case with my i99000. For that printer I, quite conveniently, found part at these "other" places. However there is a risk that scam replacements, or "refurbished", items hit that supply chain.

The rule "buyer beware" holds here. If it is "really cheat", (and I say that without meaning to slander any good sellers) it's quite possibly it's no good. There is another however, if it is really cheap, it sometimes is OK to try it. If it turns out it's no good, chuck it and buy another to try. I did that a couple of times for my i9900, but in the end I found a print head, new or refurbished I never found out, but it worked, and I got something like 4 years more out of that printer. Anyway, Good luck @dannno.

The Pro 100 is replaced by Pro 200, which uses the same QY6-0084 print head, so I think that print head will be available for five or so more years.

Ahh, that is good to know. Makes me treat my Pro-100 much better, more careful ^_^.

Whether there are lots of Pro 100 print heads still available or just one left, you should always treat your printer with kindness and respect, they deserve that for all the beautiful prints they give you..;)

There is a guy on the big auction house that sells new in box, genuine Canon print heads (not cheap). I just got one for my TS9020 and it is the real deal. He also has the Pro-100 head.

New on ebay is about $200. From Canon about $206 + tax, and shipping. If I knew for sure this would solve the problem, I'd probably go for it, but I'm on the fence about it....
