Anybody using Hobbicolor UW-8 inks in BCI-6 Carts?

I use it, but I seem to get variable performance. Using a Canon i960, the first service nozzle check print is perfect. The second service test print 1 minute later is all distorted. Just with black and cyan. Other colors are fine.

I've used Hobbicolors ink in my IP4000 printers (similar carts to yours) for some time with no problems. Read somewhere on this board that nozzle check prints use very little ink and subsequent printing can still show a problem. This has happened to me in the past (not Hobbicolors ink). I'd done a nozzle check print which was o.k. but on subsequent prints the magneta, in my case,refused to print after a short while. Did the usual
head cleaning procedure resulting in a perfect test print. Then onto a full print which resulted in the magneta drying up again. Only solved by traditional ammonia/distilled water mix (warm) soak.

I think Dave at Hobbicolors has been contacted about UW8 ink for earlier printers and he has given assurance on its suitability

All my printers from MP780 to the i9950 are fed with UW-8 ink with excellent results and no clogging after years of use. It is really a very good refill ink with excellent qualities in printing. For the pigment PGI-5Bk and the BCI-3eBK I use KMP ink, because this the blackest and most fade/highlighter resistant ink I ever experienced (even better than Canon's own ink).

I use/have been using Hobbicolor UW-8 inks in BCI-6 cartridges for both my ip4000 and ip6000D printers for about 2 years - at least since Dave came out with it. He and I traded several e-mails when I started using his first inks - I had a green tint problem with them before I started making my own printer profiles, but the colors were still somewhat muted. He suggested I use the UW-8 inks in my BCI-6 cartridges and I have been happy with the results since - but I still make profiles. I have never had a clogging problem using them. But I always purge an empty Canon cartridge before I fill it the first time with UW-8 inks.

I assume that, since you buy Hobbicolor dye ink, that the KMP dye ink is not as good as the Hobbicolor dye ink.

There is no KMP dye ink as far I know, only the pigment ink for BCI-3eBK and PGI-5BK. They optimized this ink until it can not be improved. I am very happy with this ink, which gives lasersharp text printing and is deep black.

I posted a question via the Tintenalarm.de website about their KMP pigment black ink concerning the cost of shipping. Never heard back from them.

I bought Hobbicolors pigment black ink and found the results to be very good so far. Since I refilled a cartridge with some residual OEM ink in the sponge (the cartridge had been marked as empty by the printer), it is possible that my initial impression is based on a mixture of OEM and Hobbicolors ink. Time will tell, and in short order as I am printing more text the next couple of days.

If KMP was available in the US, or Tintenalarm had replied with a reasonable shipping amount, I would try it. Since I can not find a domestic retailor and Tintenalarm has not responded, I won't be sending them any money anytime soon.

Edit - Comparing the highlighter-KMP ink test at http://tintenalarm.de/images/testbilder/KMP.jpg to my own current results with Hobbicolors pigment black ink - identical or better. My paper is Xerox Premium Multipurpose, 24lbs, 96 brightness.
