I just came back from a repair shop and the guy had told me that I must replace my ink heads on my i9900 because they got damaged from using generic inks.

I don't know how true that is or to what extent, but I held off once I heard that it would cost $109 for the ink head and $75 for labor. Right now all the colors could be more saturated and the Red and Green tanks are not printing at all.

Then I found this on eBay, the Magic Inkjet Flush system. Has anybody had any look with this kit?

Use Windex. Windex did work for me to unclog an i560 print head. The i560 print head was almost completely clogged. The nozzle check only showed a little bit of trace indicating the print head wasn't dead. With some soaking combined with use of a set of cleaning cartridges filled with Windex the print head recovered completely over night.

Well I've gotten the package in the mail and now I'm ready to use it, however I must first remove the print head from the printer! How do I go about doing that? I'm ready to try and document this operation.

This is where I am at...

As you can see I removed the two screws (yellow) at the bottom of the print head, but I can't proceed any further because I'm afraid I will break the ribbon (red). How do I get to the bottom of the jets?

STOP!!! Put the screws back in. Your action is the quick way to kill a print head if it is not dead already. There is no user serviceable component inside. Unclogging can be done without taking the print head out of your printer.

Put the print head back into your printer. Do a nozzle check, scan it and upload the image to this forum using the "upload" tab on top of this page. Wait for further instruction.

I just purchased a new i9900 printhead (for potential future use) from Canon USA (800#) for only about $81.00, $6 shipping. Replacing a printhead is easy. Canon still stocks a lot of old printheads, and they are ALWAYS the least expensive source in my experience.....they even had prinheads for i960's when I called a week ago...

Thanks embguy, I had already decided against dismantling it further. I put the screws back in and proceeded to do the cleaning per the instructions of the Magic Inkjet Flush site. I'm convinced this is what my print head needs considering two of the colors would not print AT ALL after doing numerous "deep cleanings" and that I've never once manually cleaned the print head since I've gotten the printer about 6 years ago and have used non-OEM inks for the past 3 years...

After doing alot of reading, it looks like this "system" is nothing more than a glamorized Windex solution that comes with syringes, bottles and pads. Right now I have the print head drying off for the rest of the day :)

No luck this morning, the nozzle prints look just as bad as before. I'm going to have to buy a new printer head...

I have a couple questions as well. Why is it that there are 10 slits at the bottom of the printer head when there are only 8 ink tanks!? Also where can I get the best deal on a genuine Canon i9900 printer head?
