I reckon I have solved my current humidity problem using this contraption.
Paint Tin.jpg Capture.JPG Untitled-2.jpg

I placed two-reel holders in the bottom of a used clean plastic paint bucket, after I had drilled a small hole in the side of the bucket to accommodate a nut and bolt to allow the filament to feed while in the closed bucket.

The filament reel sits nicely on the reel holders, with the filament going out through the hole and I also placed a 500-gm bag of Silica pellets and a Hygrometer in the paint bucket to check the moisture contents for a couple of weeks.

All I got to do now is to refine my CURA print setting to get back too better-quality output, it’s amazing how much I’d forgotten...

Nice idea. I guess you already know that the silica gel can be regenerated by drying at 120C/250F for an hour in an ordinary baking oven?

I'm going to be doing something similar with an airtight plastic container like this: https://amzn.to/2wHF3U6

To build this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2439008 or this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2779886 or this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2818547

Similar to the one in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8nNoDIp-Is

Probably using the teflon / bowden tubing holder here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:814597

... and maybe internal tube / roller holder held up with this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2577759

That’s great @Nifty, but it looks a bit expensive.....
My problem was I never suffered from any issues regarding moisture with PLA before, ABS yes, because I was constantly using the filaments and never give the moisture a chance to build up in it, till my printer went down.

Now that I’m more aware of the moisture issues, I plan to make another container up for my second printer, once bitten twice shy, ignorance maybe contagious, but it can be cured, thankfully if I’m anything to go by...

Not if the main user of the oven says she doesn't want silica gel anywhere near her food:(

I put my desiccant into my Modified Dehydrator For Drying Wet / Moist 3D Printer Filament and it works GREAT!

I ordered a few hygrometers to put into my dry-box I'm making, as well as any other bags / packs that I store my filament in. Hopefully this will help with some of the issues I've had (specifically around filament getting brittle).
