Good information. Thanks very much.
I can't imagine ever writing my own printer driver, though. I'm sort of a programmer, but that sounds like a fool's errand for me, unless they make it REAL simple and give VERY good directions.
Weird that these printers are dirt-cheap but still good.
Thanks, x64. Upon thinking about it, little Brother laser makes a lot of sense. They make a bunch of them. The HL-L2460DW doesn't look bad, and it's dirt-cheap. There are 4 or 5 others that would probably work well for a bit more money.
That's really good news about Linux too. I do know...
Yeah, it doesn't make sense, does it? I don't know what paper size could have anything to do with how many will stack in a feeder. I would have thought thickness could be a factor.
Epson claims that they provide Linux drivers for their printers. Search for Linux on their printer home page. They do not support those drivers, but if the drivers work, support shouldn't be necessary. I have seen some opinions that they work well. I have also seen claims that the driver was...
Too many questions, I guess.
Choosing printers is daunting. I think I have spent some days reading printer specs. and specifications. This shouldn't be so hard.
For what it's worth, here are some kind of general answers I have found for myself.
*Most of the Epson printers supposedly support...
I just ordered an ET-8550. I want to print about 10 to 20 calendars on it. I need to find out about paper handling, so I can begin to plan formats and order the paper.
I haven't decided yet between 11"x17" or 13"x19" (A3+) paper, or between single-sided or double-sided paper, so I want to...
My last HP C309a all-in-one Photosmart is getting very creaky, so it's time for a new printer. I need a color printer for moderate duty, for office printing, scanning, copying, and photo printing. It has to be reliable and refillable. Only rare paper jams, and no sudden clogs that can't be...
How does air get into the dampers?
Here is one possibility. Air is more soluble in cold water than in warm water. If you store your ink in the refrigerator, the air will come out (very slowly!) when it warms up. Just a thought, in case that helps.
In the Nifty-Stuff.com forum, Nifty told us about how to build a fire by stacking the wood upside down. I've been using it ever since, with great results. I have shown it to one or two people, and one of them recently confirmed great success. So, thanks to Nifty for that article and many...
I'm sort of desperately looking for a replacement for OCP 143Y or equivalent for my HP564 cartridges (HP Photosmart Premium C309a and other printers).
I would gladly settle for Aspen Y-143, or Inktec, or whatever. I would prefer 1/2 to 1 liter size, but I can't afford to be picky, because my...
Hmmm. But are those ink tank printers any good for text? As far as I know, none of them even has a pigment black, so all your text is water-soluble.
And some reports I have read suggest that maybe they aren't even very good at photos. (Don't anyone quote this, because this is completely...
Hmmm. The test was paid for by HP. It doesn't mean that refill materials that you purchase of good quality will produce defective results. I wouldn't want to generalize from that study.
I haven't encountered any of those problems, but I have saved thousands of dollars by refilling, although...
That's a possibility, but I think it usually takes quite a bit of heat to nucleate bubbles in reasonable time. As you say, you might have to get it just below the boiling point. I would worry about ink stability and losing other volatiles.
I have to say that I've never tried degasing liquid...
I suspect that the method of storage of ink may affect the presence of bubbles in supply lines. Air is more soluble in cold liquid than at room temperature. If you refrigerate your ink, it will gradually dissolve more air, which will very likely come out very slowly in the form of bubbles...
The proprietor of R-JetTek is retiring, so they are going out of business on Wednesday. (I'm not sure if that's the last day or the day after the last day.) I just placed an order, and they shipped it minutes later.
They're also offering a 70% discount. If you use their ink, this would be an...
I may be able to save you all the trouble of replying. I just placed an order with R-JetTek. They tell me OCP went out of business, but they sell Aspen Ink, which is made by the same guy.
The order was in the nick of time, as R-JetTek is going out of business on Wednesday (Mike is retiring)...
