Late responding to this and apologies as I thought I had ages ago. The Hat kindly did sort me out in the end with a set of OEM cartridges and those immediately proved that it was the compat carts that were the problem. With the OEMs I was sorted in the space of 5 mins with a lot less pain in...
I know, I know - I'm just so sore from trying this at the moment, and that's really the only reason for my despondency on it I think. I'm honestly more someone who hates letting anything beat me, so somehow someway I will figure out a way to overcome this - quite like your idea of the hammer...
THink I just need to take the Hat's advice on this one at this stage - having now tried 6 different compat cartridges I've had exactly the same problem on each no matter where I start the hole or how slow I take it - I even thought I'd found the answer - use the sharp needle to drill the line...
HAH - figured I'd ask here rather than annoying you again but this is definitely testing me all roads. Not helped by dire arthritic hands as I've no strength for making the initial hole (just with a push pin) properly and this endless issue of the needle never making it out the exit, instead...

I'm trying to use it on Canon IP4700 compatible cartridges but while I somehow managed to successfully achieve it on one...
Hi - thanks so much for this link - it's the exact sort of info I wanted as it at least gives me an idea why the problem is arising and how best to overcome it - looks like I'll be going down the refill route from here on - unfortunately only have 2 of my OEM cartridges left, but hoping I can...
Hi - appreciate your input and will certainly look into those cartridges shortly. I've no objection to refilling them either, but my concern is to whether there's maybe a fault in the cartridge holder that's provoking this constant error msg - wouldn't mind if it only happened when the ink was...
Hi - new to forum, and desperate to know if I've bought a "pig in a poke" with this printer. I KNOW they all recommend we don't use compatibles, but when you're on benefit-only income, and you've just errantly bought a printer whose original cartridges come in at half the cost of the printer...
