So, is it possible to print on mixed media art paper, like the Canson Xl or Strathmore 400, etc.? or are they too absorbent? And what if they were sprayed with an art fixative first? Any one tried this or is it something I will just have to experiment with on the ET-8550 maybe on the VFA setting?
Very helpful, John, really appreciate it. I bit the bullet and ordered the Epson ET-8550 on Amazon for $650.. was a lot more than I wanted to spend, but I think it will be worth it. The scanner actually has very impressive specs too, so I am going to sell my Epson Perfection V600 on Ebay, can...
Good find and a lot more robust than the Canon... I guess to get what I want I'm just going to have to spend more! How do you think this would compare to the Canon Pixma Pro 200s?
Oh well... out of stock, I missed it! %#@!
I should have spent more time checking on the paper I commonly use... I've got more respect for that old HP k8600 now, it handled all of these paper weights, even the thin inkjet film and I even printed on drafting vellum.. along with the heavy 80lb paper and even thicker card stock. I'm going...
I screwed up... I ordered this on Amazon and it arrives tomorrow. I should have spent more time researching all of this. I have HP glossy and matte photo paper that are 240g and 230g/m2 and I won't be able to use them with this printer because it is maxed at 200g/m2 I also have that 80lb matte...
Thanks, John: my bad, damn... that was for the Pixma Pro 10, you're right, sorry.
Well, guess I'll have to live with it... I don't use really thick card stock very often anyway and I could always do a laminate. The thickest paper I use is 80 lb so I guess that is out, even on the manual feed
The specs I found also call out 350g/m2 93 lb with the manual feed.. I think that will work
This was on the Canon website, but hard to find:
Paper Weight / Thickness
You can use paper in the following weight ranges.
Rear Tray: From 17 to 28 lb (64 to 105 g /m2) (plain paper except for Canon...
Comparing it to what I have been happy with my HP Office Jet Pro K8600:
I would say.. Eco tank or similar but not a necessity if I the ink is reasonable or replaceable
13x19 or at least 11x14 Tabloid
No need for a scanner as I have a high quality Epson Perfection V600 Photo.. it's also old but...
Thanks for all your help, I'm looking into getting a new printer and I definitely want one with refillable ink tanks because the ink cartridges are so $$$
I had some time yesterday to fool around with this. Three of the inf files mention the K8600 in the text, but are rejected in the driver update, and I tried the rest of the inf files I dl'd and none of them worked. I did find another wide format HP, in the Windows driver update, the older 7500A...
No, I'm not even sure how to install it, it's a cab file? How do you open it? and then what do you do? And do you think it has the original software that is missing from the package I found with the Windows 11 update search?
Thanks,
I guess it's time to buy a new one.. I'm going to start taking notes of the different features and prices. I'll also get back to you all with questions that I'm sure I'll have. Thanks for all the help
Thanks, Hogwild: Yes, I found a driver only by using the Windows 11 upgrade search function. The driver works, but the software that comes with it is very limited with none of the features I had before, I have no preview function, but the worst part is I can't even print 11x17 or 13x19 anymore...
Unfortunately when I "upgraded" to Windows 11 from 10 I lost a lot of the system files, including the downloaded driver/software that worked in Win 10 and they no longer have it on the HP site. In fact, the driver dl they have also didn't work. Luckily I found the driver with a rudimentary...
Thanks, John, appreciate the reply.
It worked fine with my Windows 10 64bit I had the software/driver package from about 2001 saved on my computer so never went looking for it on the HP website.. they probably had already deleted it. When I updated to Windows 11 it somehow deleted my saved HP...
Hello, everyone. I tried the HP forum and it's like I don't exist.
My Officejet Pro K8600 wide format printer. I upgraded to Windows 11 and had a difficult time getting the printer to work. On HP, they no longer support this printer and I have had no help from them. They supplied drivers on...
