This is very interesting indeed. My profile and the Precision Colors profile lay on top of each other and look almost like the same profile. Gamut volumes are within a few % of each other.
Next step for me is to make some test prints using my profile and the Red River onw and see what...
Thank you @Ink stained Fingers, I think this may be the real answer. The best L value I could achieve was 17.86, so slightly darker than PC is reporting. I think I will measure the black point using the Red River profile and see if it is any darker. This may be the most I can get out of this...
These are Canon Lucia OEM inks. I am using my Canon Pro-2000 at the moment. I also have a P800, but have not tried profiling this paper on that printer yet.
I'm not sure I know how to do this. Are you suggesting I print the target but using their profile instead of printing it with no profile, then read the target? How will I measure if the profile produces the desired volume?
Just to provide an update, I'm still trying to figure this out. The first thing I tried was creating a 21 step wedge from black to white, and printing it side by side on the same page using the manufacturer's profile in absolute colour space, but with different papers selected in the printer...
@Artur5 I have not tried that. In order to get the CM to work with Argyll I had to uninstall the X-rite software. I could not get the Argyll driver to connect without doing so. I have produced some great profiles with Argyll so I have never considered going back to I1Studio. Maybe I will...
The targets were printed with Qimage and no color management in the app and the driver, using the paper setting recommended. However, I may try printing a new target with different paper settings to see what I get.
Thanks for your input!
These both happen to be Red River papers - Premium Matte and Palo Duro Etching. I had no problem with my profile for their Big Bend Baryta.
Here is a comparison of my profile to the factory profile for RRPD Etching:
and for Premium Matte:
In both cases, the difference seems to be in dark...
I really enjoy the whole process of taking and working with photographs, and am constantly trying to improve my knowledge and skills at every step of the process. As part of this journey, I decided to venture into the world of creating printer profiles. Using a Colormunki and ArgyllCMS I have...
I like this approach, perhaps because I can understand the principle at work here. Thank you. I will try doing this with one of my profiles and see what I can learn.
Yes, I guess that is what I was asking. I know I can create a profile, but how do I know it is any good. I know I can create bad ones since all of the ones I created with Spyder were bad. I guess my test prints tell the tale, and they certainly look good.
I have been on quite a journey for the last month trying to create my own ICC profiles for my printers. I had a Spyder instrument, but just could not get a decent profile with it. So, I managed to find a new ColorMunki on eBay. I have been using Argyll to calibrate my monitors for several years...
Hell all
I am new here, but not new to printing and photography. I have been printing my own stuff for longer than I can remember. I started refilling with my Canon Pro 9500II, and bought a Datacolor Colorvision device for making my own profiles. Eventually, when that printer gave up the...
