It seem likely that this is the way to go. Do the refillable carts require new chips every time they are replaced? I'm hearing that they do. Who sells the best refillable cartridges? Thanks.

It works jut fine when I put in the cartridges it came with. I've heard of a firmware patch that may be needed to override printer to read 3rd party cartridges. Any help will be appreciated.

everything came up just like you said, but after I pressed set I got the hourglass and haven't pressed EFPROM as it is grayed out. Don't want to touch it. here is a screenshot. Thoughts?
