My view on this is simply the current cost model of cheap printer and expensive ink is not sustainable in the long term. Let's face it, the only reason for refilling is a financial one. Eventually the courts will decide that preventative chipping and other practices that pretend to be in there...
Hi Hat,
Thanks for the review and positive comments. To follow up;
I pulled apart the inner bag and can see the spigot terminates as a paddle shaped extension within the bag.(It's now in the bin, so no picture unfortunately). I did think it may be a contents sensor (no other obvious mechanism to...
Here is my Powerpoint Demo. All due credit to 'The Hat' and others for the original postings on this topic. I don't think I have added much if anything that is new, just tidied up the method and documented a real life example. I would be interested to know if anyone out there finds any problems...
Hi all,
I have put together a .ppt presentation. Unfortunately this forum is returning an error when I try to post. I'll try again in the morning, it's getting late in the UK
Hi Hat,
It has been a few months! I had to wait until my OEM's ran down before further testing. What I did last week was to do as you said, try the OEM with the chip from my Chinese carts. Would you believe it, it worked :-)
I have since refilled the OEM with the compatible ink and all systems...
Well, I did ask around the Alibaba suppliers for confirmation that the chips will work (or not) with V2.xx of the firmware. I only had one reply:
Dear Alastair Dobell
You have a new message from AliExpress supplier Ron Deng.
Ron Deng: Our chip just suit the printer date of 2014 years.
So he...
Hi Hat and Forum,
Had confirmation from pay-pal today that the full value of my purchase has been refunded. Okay, I'm still £60 down on the VAT I had to pay DHL to clear customs, but I do get to keep the carts. I've just got to find a way of using them :-)
I'm asking around the wider Alibaba...
Out of interest Hat, my printer has firmware 2.1 embedded. What does your Pro-1 have? I'm thinking Canon may have updated their firmware to block the currently known compatibles.
Gut feeling though is their strategy of (relatively) low cost printer and high cost consumables is not...
Hi Hat,
Quick update. Contacted the supplier in China. Sent photo evidence and screenshots of the B500 error and the leaking cart. Must admit, they replied rapidly and do seem genuinely interested in sorting this out. I have agreed to give them some slack to investigate, but I'll not let them...
Hi Hat,
I finally got around to swapping out an OEM cart with one compatible tonight. What a disaster! First, one of my set of 10 compatibles, removed after the first attempt ended in the B500 error with flashing lights and wrapped in Clingfilm, had leaked. Photo black all over the other carts...
Hi Hat,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm slightly confused about moving the chip between carts. I'm assuming the compatibles are fitted with chips that fool the printer into accepting the carts as full. So I understand that in theory replacing the OEM chip with the one from the compatible will...
Hi Hat,
Thanks for the comments. I have not swapped out any of the OEM's yet. But If I am reading you correctly, having a cart in the wrong slot would cause the lockup, so I do feel confident that my printer woes are behind me.
Regarding the status utility on the Mac, I am using OS X (10)...
Only joking. Home is actually Scotland. An experienced amateur photographer with canon camera kit and a PRO-1 printer, I am hoping to learn and contribute to the forums.
Hi all,
A quick update. I used the work instructions from 'the Hat' to get into the ink carts. It was straightforward enough, albeit I was surprised that the whole panel had to be moved aside with various mechanical bits and wires still connected to gain access.
While replacing the carts one at...
Hi all,
Same story as Samuel. I bought the PRO-1 around April this year from Calumet Glasgow. It was a sealed box and I had no issues with the packaging or the printer. As I am an amateur and my full time job took me away for weeks at a time, the printer was very lightly used, until today I was...
