Question I've been pondering. Why is it necessary to seal off the vent hole when refilling the ink cartridge? I've seen so many videos on youtube where the person just refills the cartridge with the vent hole not covered, even the one video with the automatic refill thingy. So, it made me...
What is the best or suggested maintenance schedule for flushing cartridges. I could not find anything concrete, but not impossible that I missed it.
Thanks...Al
That's good to know Hat even though I don't use any of those plug ins - just straight through LR5 and Photoshop. Wait, are those the plug ins?
Don, please report back after you've done a (some) refills.

Since I have 2 sets of OEM cartridges, I will only use the CLI-8 for the yellows. I've change one so far and when the other yellow goes dry, I will change that one, too.
Update: The Hat you were absolutely correct. Changed settings as follows: Auto Power On (Enable), Auto Power off (Disable). I let the printer sit idle for a couple hours and when I went to print, she sprung into action.
Roy, check your settings as outlined by "The Hat"
Thanks Hat...Al
I'm pretty new to this, but from my readings and questions, you'd want to purchase 8 CLI-8 carts and transfer the chip over to them. It's easy to remove and transfer the chips. Below is a link to the video. Ideally, you'd want at least 2 sets of ink, so that when you perform maintenance on...
Wow. I don't know the answer, but that's scary. I'm not familiar with all those additional apps that Canon has for this printer, but have you tried to print with refillable cartridges yet? If so, definitely keep the community updated with the results. If you can't do refillable inks, I would...
Ahh, that makes sense. I've seen those buttons, but thought it was so that I could turn on and off from the computer. I will check and report my findings.
Thanks...Al
Hat, the photos I posted is the cartridge that I topped off, but I removed it after I saw all that junk in it (scared of potential clogs) and replaced it with a new Canon yellow cartridge that I got from another printer I purchased off of Craiglist. I will use the new cartridge until it goes...
Did you have to use any glue or such to keep the chip in place? I am waiting for my cartridge also - should be here this week. Mine loves the gray ink, too.
Thanks...Al
I topped it off (about 1/2 was gone) just before seeing this thread with the PC yellow ink kit (see also post #4), so I did not know of this issue before the refill. BTW, should I not use the new Canon yellow cartridge that I just installed.
I just wanted to post up a couple photos of my Yellow ink cartridge after only 1 top off where you can see some unusual things. I assume this is what's being talked about in this thread. Fortunately, I found another Pro 100 (yesterday) and just swapped in the entire 8 cartridge set while I wait...
Thanks for the feedback. Mikling, you say you have profiles - are they on your website? I will do the water test. Would any harm come to the print head or printer if I just used the paper to see how it fairs?
Al
I have the Pro 100 connected, via wireless. The printer is no more than about 8' from the router (opposite side of room). I've noticed that if the printer sits idle for an hour or more (could be shorter, but this is the time frame I've noticed), when I go to print, I see the "spooling" message...
I found some old HP Premium Photo Paper and Kodak Ultima Photo paper that I used with the HP Photosmart 7960 printer some years ago. Is this paper good to use with the Epson R1900 and Canon Pro 100? Is it even still good to use?
Thanks...Al
Just got to say thanks to all of you for the tremendous help with showing (guiding) me (and others) on how to refill these cartridges and saving tons of money and also for showing patience with the many questions I've had. I'm in printing heaven now. The Wifey loves all the photos I've printed...
