What brand of ink are you using and is it pigment or dye?

    Have I broken my 1270?

What exactly do you mean by cleaning fluid? Is it a water-based liquid or some kind of chemical solvent like fingernail polish remover or paint thinner? In any case, if Epson print heads are like Canons, it's not a good idea to force a liquid through the ink path with too high a pressure or to...

The Twilight Zone unfortunately its real..

I'll bet that BCI-3eBk still had ink in the reservoir when you refilled it, correct? With these unchipped cartridges, the printer has no way of knowing that you removed and replaced a cartridge unless the reservoir is empty. In other words, if you refill it before the printer is indicating a low...

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

I'm beginning to think that the change Canon made with CLI-8 inks (over the BCI-6 inks), especially in the magenta ink, was to improve the darkness of black when printing from a 3-dye ink printer. The printers that The Hat is doing his comparison test with use the CLI-8 cartridges (and probably...

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

A JPG is a lossy compression and will result in a reduction of quality. A PNG is lossless and will not change the quality at all. However, it may not have as much compression, especially for a scanned image. If it's too large to upload, then just do the two gray samples. But make sure you scan...

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

The Hat, can you please scan them again, either as .png or as .bmp converted to .png. The .jpg format introduces artifacts. And please scan them identically. You will note that the B sample is scanned larger than the A sample making it impossible to do a valid comparison.

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

I agree with panos. When I had an iP3000, I printed the same photograph (with a large dark area) on it and on an iP4000. The difference was clear, although not enough to be objectionable. Look, I never said the guy shouldn't buy an iP3000, I just wanted to point out this issue in photo...

The Hat, do you have a three color printer? I don't see one in your list of printers.

2 year old OCP ink or just stick with hobbicolors

I have observed that the OCP ink is noticeably not as dark as practically all other pigment black inks. However, it faired one of the best of all the inks I tested with regard to clogging in the ink absorber pads. However, if you do start using the OCP ink and your printers start clogging in the...

HobbiColors now offers "new" version of Black Pigment ink!

You make a great point. If it weren't for the fact that I was having the same problem on several different printers at the same time, and following another person's similar problem on the forum, and getting a report from Germany that the problem was the purge unit clogging, I probably just would...

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

The Hat, you need to print a photograph that has some large black areas in it and print it on a 3-dye ink printer and on a 4-dye ink printer on the same type of photo paper, then look at them side by side.

HobbiColors now offers "new" version of Black Pigment ink!

"For a supplier to say they werent aware of any problems is utter bull" sounds to me like calling him a liar. But, thanks for your clarification.

HobbiColors now offers "new" version of Black Pigment ink!

The Hat, I don't think it is appropriate or fair for you to be calling Dave a liar. I have had extensive communication with him and I don't believe that he was aware of the problem. Nobody ever contacted him about the problem, not any of the five people that had clogs in their printers nor I...

    Clogged Canon print head

Then I should have said there are four tubes coming off the purge pad and one of them on which ever side you are using will need to be plugged.

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

It looks to me like you just disagreed with yourself and agreed with me. I said that on plain paper there's no difference between the iP3000 and the iP4000 for printing photos, text, or anything. I said that on photo paper is where you can see a difference in the darkest regions. You said the...

You can find the instructions for the extended nozzle text here: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=929 Make sure when you get near the end to press the RESUME button once and then the power button. After it is all done, press the power button one more time to get the printer...

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

If you're really serious, the i9100 is a six-color dye ink printer with wide format. I would like to find some good homes for the ones I have that I hardly ever use.

Dare I buy a Canon IP3000? For photo printing, refilling cartridges

Since the iP3000 does not have a photo black ink cartridge, it's better suited for printing on plain paper. There is a noticeable difference in the printouts done on photo paper in the darkest regions. You'd be better off with an iP4000 in this regard. If you do decide to buy, you should do an...

HobbiColors now offers "new" version of Black Pigment ink!

I notice that some of his auctions still have the older ink. Why don't you ask him what is the difference between them and the New Version of ink?
