Epson Stylus Photo 1290 Head Replacement

I would have expected black to get far more usage than cyan. Something that did cross my mind is the EEPROM that holds the head info. My understanding is that the data includes the voltages required to drive the piezo elements. It may be unlikely, but if the data for the cyan channel were to...

Epson Stylus Photo 1290 Head Replacement

Out of interest, here is a macro image of the cyan jets spraying deionised water from a syringe. It's not a perfect photo, but it clearly shows all 48 jets are open and not blocked with ink.

Epson Stylus Photo 1290 Head Replacement

Thanks - I will contact them for a price and availability quote. In view of the age, unless a new head can be obtained cheaply, I will probably end up buying a new printer. If it were a problem with crystal fatigue, is it likely that 19 out of the 48 jets would all fail at about the same time...

Epson Stylus Photo 1290 Head Replacement

From the printer test pattern, it's easy to tell which of the 48 jets are working and which are not. The failed jets are shown in red, the working ones are shown in cyan. If there were any true blockages, it would be quite easy to spot them when injecting fluid with the head removed.

Epson Stylus Photo 1290 Head Replacement

I've owned my Epson Stylus Photo 1290 for about 14 years and it has worked pretty well for general use and colour photo printing. I've had the usual ink blockages over the years but have always managed to clear them. The waste ink pad became full a while back, so I reset the software and fitted...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

You seem to be suggesting that wireless networks are insecure. What makes you think that? I used to design software for switches and routers, so I know a bit about how networks operate. My wireless network is configured such that new devices cannot connect unless their MAC addresses have been...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

I've now figured out how to get this to work using the Epson 64bit XP driver... As I suspected, the root cause of the problem is that the Epson 64bit XP driver is not digitally signed. You can still install and use it, but you first have to disable driver signature checking in Windows 10. The...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

That suggestion only makes sense for a local printer that is physically located close to the client PC. The maximum USB cable length is only a few meters. In my case the printer is not even in the same room as the client. I want to connect to it over a wireless network. The point is that...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

I managed to add a new remote printer using the WIn 10 Epson Stylus Photo 1290 (M) driver by manually adding a TCP/IP port with the host IP address of the XP machine and port 9100. However, printing a test page does not work. I can't find any useful diagnostic information. Attempting to use...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

I am wondering if the problem could be that Win 10 will not use the Epson 64bit XP driver because it is not digitally signed.

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

I'm reviving this old thread as I recently bought a new Windows 10 64bit desktop and am having problems connecting to my old Epson 1290 over a network... The Epson 1290 is still working fine and is connected to my old 32bit XP desktop. I am trying to configure a networked printer on the new Win...

    Epson 1290 nozzle outs

My Epson 1290 is around 13 years old now. It's been pretty reliable, but over the last few weeks I've begun to experience more nozzle outs. If I initiate a head clean operation, the nozzle blockages appear to move around - i.e. the nozzles that were blocked become clear, but others that were ok...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

I did try installing the 32bit drivers in compatability mode on the 64bit machine, but I got an error message telling me the installer could not be run.

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

Further to my last reply... Although you can't install a 32bit driver on a 64 bit machine, you can add one using the 'Additional Drivers' option under Printer Properties->Sharing. However, drivers you add in this way are not actually installed on the local machine. They are copied and installed...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

Unfortunately the 32 bit XP driver will not install on a 64 bit machine. It would be interesting to try a 64bit XP machine (not Windows 7) with a shared printer on a 32bit XP machine. I bet that doesn't work either. Has anyone tried that combination? I assume it works when using two 32 bit XP...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

Good idea websnail. Here's what happened... First I had to connect the printer via USB to the Windows 7 laptop as it has no parallel port. Windows 7 then automatically installed its own USB driver for the 1290 named 'Epson Photo Stylus 1290 (M)'. This driver doesn't support all the 1290...

Epson 1290 Status Monitor for shared printers (Windows 7)

I have an Epson 1290 that still works perfectly. It is connected to a 32 bit windows XP machine via the parallel port. The 32 bit XP Epson printer driver is V5.20. I wanted to be able to print from a laptop running 64 bit windows 7. There is no windows 7 driver available for that printer (32 or...
