I agree. The most likely point outside the print head is the mating face between the print head and the ink supply, but I'm going to troubleshoot in order of least committed ink usage.
That's actually why I considered doing a Group 3 system clean as step one as removing the print head probably...
Onwards we go, focusing on finding the source of contamination and fixing it if it makes economic sense. I'll double check no cyan has found its way back into the CO cartridge. Because air pressure is used to expel ink from the cartridge, it's not impossible that a leak of cyan has allowed it...
@The Hat
Starting at the end, one thing my engineering experience has taught me is never to mess with things outside my area of knowledge without a service manual or clear direction from someone who has the appropriate knowledge.
The ink carts are all Canon OEM and received sealed at least in...
Both,
I have never refilled a cartridge. I looked into it, but found that buying large batches from folks whose printer died has kept me going at around $10 a sealed cartridge, most in sealed boxes..
So the CO cartridge came out of a sealed bag in a sealed box.
I'm with @The Hat as this looks...
Thank you both for your input.
I've run a cleaning cycle, actually the two groups that included both cyans and CO and the result as you can see is unchanged.
Both cyans are fine, there's cyan on the two dark grey CO bands but not on the light grey CO bands on the nozzle check.
I'll own up to...
Using HP Premium Glossy and OEM inks to get back in action after little printing (but periodic good nozzle checks) before I wheel out some large format papers, I did a nozzle check and saw a good result apart from blue blocks on the CO area, so proceeded to a test print and noted fine vertical...
Cancel last message. I went through a head cleaning method, leaving it installed and using a paper towel soaked in Windex, leaving the head over it for a while. It has worked very well. I now know the smears below yellow and black are in fact text. All inks changed and this will now generate...
Thank you. I was suspecting that would be the sequence.
Given that my task here is to maximize the value of the donation for the hospice, are there things I could note / tasks to do when I've removed the cartridges before I unseal the spare set (which has a decent value even if the printer gets...
Hi,
Quick reintro.... I have a Canon Pro 1 myself, so familiar with the trials of decent photo printers. I volunteer at the thrift shop that supports our only non-profit hospice and work on the interesting stuff mostly.
A 1430 came in, looking good, but yellow and black are not responding to...
I'd appreciate some help with this puzzle
I'm familiar with higher end photo printers - I have a Canon Pro-1 that is now back working after an issue thanks to TheHat
I volunteer for the thrift store that supports our local hospice (TRU Lafayette, CO), checking out and servicing if necessary...
Thank you.
Just because I could, I called Epson and they said I had to take it to an authorized service center to get the ink system purged.
So I called the local authorized service center and they said they have many printers in this family shipped in for repair by standard methods (Fedex /...
I need to ship an R2880 soon via Fedex Ground within the USA
The shipping instructions in the manual are clear - just tape up the ink flap and external flaps and keep it horizontal.
I obviously can't guarantee which way up Fedex or anyone else will load it for shipping.
Removing the...
One week later, I pulled and gave the PBK and CO a good shake as they appeared to have random lines missing then ran a standard clean on the groups containing them and Red and it's produced a good test pattern and subsequently a good 10x8 print.
If replacement printheads from a reliable source...
The Hat, I reflected on your advice to be patient, at least in part because I couldn't source a new print head immediately and I was not going to buy a remanufactured one.
So I decided to try weekly cleaning sessions and see if the red channel started to show some signs of life.
Today was the...
The Hat,
Thank you again.
Sounds like I made a good call on not printing that red patch!
Just checked and seen new printheads on ebay for $150 or less. Are there refurbs or (unlikely?) counterfeits being sold there?
That begs the question: if I'm going to have to pull the printhead out to...
Update: I did the nozzle check / standard clean / nozzle check only and everything is improving nicely, probably needing a couple more standard clean cycles at intervals as some lines absent, except for still absolutely nil red activity and the strange blue and grey blocks on CO
What's the...
Thank you. My intention is to get this behaving properly as I've now got some time to make more prints.
I had set up a photoshop file that was pure red to coax the red channel into action, but I thought better of it.
I've already had the red cartridge out and shaken it and reinstalled, just...
First owner of this Pro-1, intermittent use for 3 years then no use for 2 years.
Expected to need a serious cleaning.
Had a full set of OEM sealed carts (in boxes & sealed bags inside)
Installed those indicated by the printer first, then:
2x standard cleaning made progress, but no red and...
