Hmm - useful to know! I'd expect collection to keep the cost low enough for this crazy scheme. Old cardboard box and clothes for carriage me thinks if absorber is the sale reason. And I'll disassemble / jetwash it in the garden first :D. Then jet wash me to clean up o_O.
MG5250. They come up on eBay in working order or with stated "problems" such as ink absorber full for low prices. My plan to try and overcome the "damage contagion" was to ensure donor machine works by resetting absorber level, cleaning blocked heads, etc, then remove / clean / store head...
Following the above discovery I'm considering getting a spares / repairs printer with the same head from eBay (only £5-£10 it seems) so I can a clean and store a spare head, then periodically switch them around to avoid having to find a chunk of time when a single head could be cleaned and dried...
Well I never knew it came out that easily . When I couldn't see it in the service manual I thought it must be 'even more difficult'.
No time to clean it properly today, but I will sometime soon. Instead it got a wipe over with a damp cloth to shift the gunk (mostly PGBK), but...
The flushed cartridges filled really easily to 23.5g-24.0g with clip. So that's 10.5g or so if ink altogether.
A couple of unpurged ones filled to the same, so presumably are in good condition.
And a couple only filled to 21g or so before overflowing. I've made a note of which and will see...
I thought some might be interested in a bit more detail on this, and the printer's recovery :).
When the status looked like this with the Clas Ohlson cartridges in place:
The printer test page gave this (very messy pigment black, near missing cyan and yellow):
And the cartridges have an...
Lots of useful info in there for me :clap.
I've top filled my 525 / 526s 4 or 5 times - so about 20 fills overall. My 526 target weight is 23.5g with the clip in place, and that worked well the first few times, but less reliably later on - I started to get overflows @ ~21g. Not a great...
I have three sets of CLI-526 cartridges that I refill, but after a few minor overflow incidents thought I might try using CLI-521 cartridges instead to get a view on how full they are. To get started on this I have bought an unopened Canon C/M/Y set of 521s with the plan of swapping over the...
It was a distress purchase when my daughter mentioned whilst out shopping that she couldn't print homework due for Mon.
I wonder if leaky ink explains them being empty but reporting still OK. There haven't been any obvious smears, pools, etc.
If I could have got to the reviews while shopping...
I like Clas Ohlson as a general shopping experience. Lots of unusual and regular stuff at good prices in a well laid out store. However...
Due to a lack of time and refill ink we ended up with a pack of these:

Buying 10ml+50ml of PG and IPA on eBay UK for £5 seems to work out about the same price as these 30ml products, which are 5% glycerine in IPA, and so seem to be a reasonable approximation of the base mix to add water (and ammonia) to...
Well I'm delighted that there is about a x100 multiplier so that the saving on a 9ml cartridge ought to buy me a quaffable 750ml of plonk :) A smart investment IMHO.
So although I already enjoyed the engineering challenge / satisfaction of refilling the MG5250's cartridges, today was the day I first really felt the value of it for two reasons:
1) I was able to return a full set (and double on the blacks) of unopened Canon cartridges for a 80 or so refund...
Do any of the elements at the front of the cartridge have a purpose? If not then I would investigate drilling a hole at the top of the front and fill that section with hot melt glue or epoxy adhesive (Slow-set Araldite is very fluid if warmed in hot water before mixing :)) to effectively...
