Agree, the ink in the printhead will dissolve the last impurities.
Do a few nozzle checks every day.
Enjoy your printer and take care of it, you won't find anything better to refill.
Photo Colorpicker is part of the original Colormunki Photo application.
A very nice feature.
Seems to be available for download here:

I still have this software on my computer for the Colorpicker although I use i1Studio for...
@chores :
Your nozzle check is not bad at all.
Let the printer switched on overnight and do a few nozzle checks the next morning.
Most probably the PBK will clean itself without further cleaning cycles after a few days.
Eventually do one or maximum two normal cleanings, avoid deep cleaning...
I have a flush clip but only use it to - well "flush" ;) - cartridges, I find it too cumbersome for refilling (how to determine the exact volume, what with the excess ? I never put ink back in the bottle to avoid contamination).
Never had problems with the dripping method, except with the...
The air can be removed by squeezing the cart gently after refilling until only ink comes out and no foam.
You can see when there is air when the ink absorption slows at the end of the dripping (one of the reasons I use this method).
Octo GY can be a bit critical on flow, but I only experienced...
Colormunki is priceless :thumbsup
This one has much better reds.
The greys are darker, is this with PGI-72GY ?
As far as I remember octo GY is lighter, but I had no problems with it as far as I didn't swap without reprofiling (the only colours I could exchange with OEM without colour issues are...
Technically the print is OK (no banding etc), but when comparing with the same test prints I made many times with different papers and inks and custom profiles, the red is clearly too dominant.
See the rocks, the strawberries etc.
@Borut , you should see it yourself by comparing your print or...
Indeed, for obvious construction reasons "compatible" PGI-72 cartridges can kill a printhead in no time, and this can start strange behaviour as blocking the head in the parking position etc...
Think twice before buying a used PRO-10 where those carts have been in, even at a very cheap price (as...
I recently ran the BK cart dry - pure laziness from my part - without additional error message.
Printhead still OK after refill...
These things are built for office use, maybe they can have some mismanagement.
Low ink doesn't cause problems anymore.
When a colour (with ARC) goes empty, I open the front door, remove the cart and refill it in the basement (and seal the ink outlet with a piece of alu tape).
IMO it is less hassle to respect the official procedure instead of refilling all together (as with...
I've got cloggs on some colours too, without an understandable pattern, a strange beast indeed.
I am happy now and print a lot, IMO the machine likes this.
C and Y are from GI-56 bottles, M is still happy with octopus-office.de, and BK is from an expired PFI-701BK cart.
As said, trial and error.
This printer didn't print more than 100 pages !
With OEM ink (or good quality 3th party from Precisioncolors.com or Octoinkjet.co.uk) I think the printhead will recover.
Happy printing !
Your printhead doesn't look good :(
It seems ammonia attacks metals, I stopped using it since long.
Regarding the storage, I pour isopropanol (aka propylene glycol) over (a proven good and thoroughly rinsed) printhead as @The Hat does and store it in a zip bag.
The alcohol evaporates, but I...
Very interesting.
I wish I could make GY for Canon printers too by diluting BK with a clear ink base.
Actually I found a formula based mainly on G(reen) and B(lue).
Indeed, even in the endlessly quoted PRO-9500 maintenance manual power ON or OFF isn't discussed.
No idea if disconnecting from the mains interferes with the scheduling.
I did it when the counter was half full to test the service tool.
As said, you always can guide the purge tubes outside when an overflow should occur.
It is certainly worth to save this printer, most probably the last refillable, and I doubt the PRO-300 is better.
Very interesting indeed !
Seems the Canon bottled pigment ink is worse than the 3th party inks I always used in my photo printers, in particular the yellow.
You will have time to worry about leaks, and it is always possible to guide the waste ink tubes into an external "potty".
Take care in the first place to use the correct service tool to reset the counter (5204 as far as I know).
