A surviver here.
PRO-10 and 9500II still going strong with plenty of ink (paper and printheads) hoarded.
My best inks (OEM large format) are for the PRO-10.
The 9500 is for office work with leftovers from all the 3th party inks I ever tried ;).
Best refillable printers ever made IMO.
On the...
This printer has a steel rail as the Canon consumer printers, but should it wear that fast ?
PS: you could try to grease it (I remember applying some on the round bars of my PRO-9500).
I do not own the PRO-300 but the PRO-10 and try to think with you.
Since you suspect the printhead path, did you compare test prints in standard versus high quality settings (the latter I suppose does 2 passes) ?

Don't worry about the CD, all software and documentation is online.
Read it very carefully, it is not very straightforward, but I was able to create 2 instances of my PRO-10 (same software) one on USB and one networked (Wifi).
Speed is the same, so if your printer is not more than 5m away, use...
You could try to do the cleaning with thicker material with a rough surface (cardboard cut from a box or something).
Maybe it will catch the stuck piece.
Or gently insert a piece of cardboard (or heavy photo paper) from the front...
