Thank you PeterBJ and all others for their helpful suggestions. I had tried the paper towel and window cleaner method but made no difference. Not sure I know how to get into service mode will leave that for later. The PG problem only started after I had cleared the Magenta clog with the above...
Not been in touch for some time as printer has been fine. However about 4 weeks ago the usual Magenta problem came back. Tried a couple of cleans to no avail so pulled head washed it out and did the usual gentle W5 window cleaner technique. Dried re-installed Magenta fine again but noticed that...
Thanks very much. Downloaded Windows 8.1 64 followed your instructions. I thought I might have to use a wired connection but for some reason it would not complete the install. I then tried the wireless route, it found my router straight away and is printing as good as ever. great and very speedy...
After getting my laptop infected with malware and unable to completely get rid of it I did a fresh install of Windows 10 and now the laptop is fine. The snag came when I went to Canon to download a driver. Unfortunately my printer no longer supported.
I would appreciate any suggestions
I have the same printer and have had consistent problems with Magenta. I also usually use the German method but do sometimes find ink flow a problem. I have been using the same set of carts for over 18months now, and refill as soon as I get the low warning and the Magenta was a top fill type...
Further to PeterBJ's advice re batteries on Redsetter confirm I have installed a new high-quality battery. Now all the carts get the short and long flash.
Thanks again
Thanks PeterBJ for your information will get a new battery to be on the safe side.
it would also enable me to check the stock of empty alleged Magenta carts I got off E-bay they looked spotless.

That's amazing I have tried adopting your method on my Pixma MP620 about 18/24months ago and it worked like a charm. That is till recently I do not know whether it is the original cart or my Red Resetter.
First it was Magenta I got the first short flash but not the long one. Refilled anyway and...
When I request a print from a web page, the printer responds (although more slowly) but I get the printer not recognised message with the yellow warning triangle, and of course no ink levels shown which is important.
If I do a nozzle check I get the levels but do not know how accurate that is...
Sorry PeterBJ bit confused by your reply I merely set the paper type to matte photo as suggested by The Hat but the resulting output was very very slow. You seem to implying that using the Pigment will print twice as fast. As the PB seems to be inoperative I assumed that it would only use...
I tried the matte photo setting you suggested to print out a 4 page energy bill. It was fine but terribly slow, is this typical?
With regard to a stubborn block as the cleaning fluid went through so quickly I assumed it could not be blocked? cart was blow tested before insertion. I would like...
Is it worth doing an eprom print out? only forgotten how to do it. The replacement BK cart was from Octoinkjet and I tested it dripped before installing it. When I bought this printer S/H from E-bay the listing stated not used for several weeks and no PGBK cart. I took a chance as bidding was...
I have been absent for some time largely due to the ill-health of myself and my wife but now improving slowly. Also since I took up only filling the same cart every time I got the yellow low ink sign I have had no problems until recently.
The Photo BK nozzle check looked pale and had a number...
