If I were in the market for a used printer I would ask on this forum first before buying off ebay.
I would trust honesty of the members here over ebay.
PS: I have a used iP4500 in use and I like it a lot.
I think you are correct about there being several designs of resetters in blue boxes.
The battery is the original that came in the resetter 11-2011 but I have reset only about 30 carts with it.
I
ROX glad you posted about your resetter made me check mine.
It uses a single CR2032 battery and still reads 3.05 volts.
I purchased it from Mapsy a forum member around 11-2011.

If that were my printer I would be trying to clean out the clog in the print head.
I have had test prints that looked worse than that and brought the print head back from the dead. I have also had several 3000 and 4000 print heads that never came back.
Can you please give a little more information, especially about ink and ink cartridges you are using.

Have you tried this?
Remove the print head and leave the carriage in the middle.
Plug the printer in and hit the power button while watching the empty carriage.
What happens?
OK the purge gears you are talking about will rotate freely in one direction but in the other direction they raises and lowers the purge pads and slides the wiper blades in and out rotates and the purge pump. Doing all these things makes the gears hard to rotate so I use a Popsicle stick instead...
The only other thing I can think of is to hold the printer upside down and shake it and see if any thing falls out. Its best to remove the paper cassette before doing this.
The next test is to turn the drive gears on the left hand side. Look inside and you will see the 2 gears over on the left. You should be able to rotate either gear with your finger. You should be able to rotate either gear in both directions with no binding.
Usually when the logic board dies it will be completely dead or have lights flashing.
If you still have the top off the printer rotate the gears on the front right side of printer and see if the purge unit is binding. This will lock and unlock the head assembly so you can slide the carriage...
I am no expert but generally when this happens forum members assume the logic board and the print head are bad.
When you powered up the printer the last time did the print head unlock and move any?
Where do you live?
Popsy you have just described a dead Canon printer with a bad logic board.
Your power supplies are probably OK Canon makes good switching power supplies.
How did your friend check the power supply?
If he found bad components on the circuit board what are their ID numbers?
This could very well just be a dead circuit board inside the printer.
Las Totally Awesome is also sold at my local Wal-mart.
I picked up a bottle and the only tests I have run is removing ink from rags and removing ink from plastic purge pads and plastic pinch rollers. This is the only cleaner that I have used that will remove all the black ink from a black...
