Well I put the power supply back in the 4500 and it powered up long enough the get the print head out.
Sure enough there was a pin-hole burn on the bottom of the print head close to the color nozzles. This 4500 had less than 1000 prints and now the print head and the logic board are dead.

Mi low mileage iP4500 died last month, it just powered off.
I have a iP4000 that did the same thing the logic boards and print heads are junk.
The power supplies in both printers look, test and smell like new.

The 780 is too big for my small house so I may give it away on craigs list since it is in good condition.
I played $10 for the MP780 at the thrift store just hoping I could salvage the print head.
The paper tray is missing so the 780 will probably go back to the thrift store.

Looks like the 780 was not used much and was last used in 2010.
It had Canon carts and the black pigment was almost solid on top of the inlet screen.
Worked to unclog the head for a week but finally killed it.

To actually dry the circuit board in a Canon print head air needs to be directed into the vents just above the inlet screens.
After washing or soaking a print head the only part that you really want dry is the circuit board hiding behind those vents.
