You are spot on here. I had to give up for the moment. I'm determined to fix this now, but, must schedule 2 hours and a shower. The area under the print heads needs at least 1 more cleaning. I took out the purge tank and ... what a mess. All 4 sides. above and below. As thick as 3 or 4...
Thanks. I did put a gauze pad with Windex between the print head and waste pad for maybe 2 minutes. If Windex is the right stuff I give it overnight this time.
Attached is the nozzle check I ran after toying with the printer last night. My first concern is whether or not the black ink...
What are the best materials and method to clean and refurb this printer using pigment ink?
I studied youtube last night and took a shot. There is evidence of black ink in several places across the bottom under the ink head path. It's all dry and a dry rag doesn't pick up ink. I released...
Yes and no. Thanks for asking.
I loved my WFP-4540 printer. I have a new Epson WFP-4630. It fit right on top of the 4540 aux paper tray making my 4630 a 4640. It works flawlessly. The Staples manager was great. I received a check for $199.99 from the warranty company yesterday. As I...
My WP 4540 is 2 years old next week. Started having black ink trouble about 2 weeks ago. I have a 2 year extended warranty. They have approved a fix or replacement. I like the printer and cost per copy.
Can this printer be properly fixed for the long term? I've never had a printer problem...
Your figures look great! OEM black comes to $13 / 2400 or $.00542, color $8.33 / 1200 or $.00695. Both options are good.
When first considering a new printer I estimated cost per image for these refillable carts, 5% coverage black ink @ $.005 or less, color @ 2 to 3 times that. While...
I'm open to anything that that gives value, quality and simplicity. Even OEM in a pinch. Can we run the numbers together? Cost per image concerns me more than how long the cartridges last. Does anyone know how to pull image counts off Epson WP printers?
Leonard sells Epson pigment ink...
I got my first set working in late May and used about half the black and a little less of the colors to the point when they failed this month. I haven't checked the page count, don't yet know where to look.
The Workforce 4540 continues to function well but my surgically enhanced cartridges quit mid job last Sunday. Several perfect 2 page prints followed by “cartridges not recognized.” All 4! I couldn't accomplish a quick fix so I used the 4 OEM starter carts to complete the printing.
I worked...
If it's not mechanical, look at the rollers. I use rubber rejuvenator every year or so to keep feed rollers working well. It's kept many friends and clients from trashing printers and only takes a few minutes. The results can amaze. Apply it outdoors or a well ventilated area. Two examples...
Thanks for the heads up. I'm aware of Epson's contest with its customers and we have all pledged to refrain from upgrading firmware. Because yellow almost always worked & magenta often did, I figured F/W wasn't the issue.
I noted the chip position but my vendor had little to suggest. When...
Thanks ... good to know. You must know by now we yanks have no patience or attention span and are unable to wait for an answer. These refillables are a product/service combination where a knowledgeable vendor makes all the difference. The vendor I used was willing to refund and sent...
Thanks for your response.
I already purchased a set of refillable cartridges. They look similar to yours but use different chips and do not have a chip cover. I had similar problems to the OP but none of the suggestions showed any improvement. The vendor was somewhat responsive but had no...
Another option is to refill your Epson OEM cartridges. The following YouTube offers detailed instructions. You will need an Epson chip re setter which will also reset the waste tank. I've never tried this or used the vendor.

The Workforce is a good printer and Epson does make great ink. Most OEMs make great ink as well as many competitors. How long the ink lasts doesn't change the relative price advantage of quality refills. Amazon sells a set of 4 Epson 676XLs for $118.50, decently rated alternative XL sets from...
