It does not matter at what point in the chip resetting process that you fill the carts, as the chip does not sense the actual ink in the cartridge. I usually fill the carts first, then reset the chip.

If your colors are off the solution is a custom ICC profile for the inks and paper that you are using. Check your paper manufacturer to see if they have ICC profiles for their paper and the Epson 1400. If this does not work then InkJetCarts can provide a custom ICC profile. Just explicitly...
The damper carts for your Epson 1400 will drip ink if you have them out of the printer with filling ports open. With filling ports closed and out of the printer, they will continue to drip ink, but at a much slower rate. In the printer they should not leak any ink. With damper carts you...
I usually buy my photo paper at atlex.com and usually find their prices to be low. Others on this forum may have experience with other suppliers. If you have any Kirtland paper left, try it on the Epson 1400. You may find that it will perform well. Also you should use profiles specific for...
You need the damper cartridges and the UV resistant ink "Epson SP1400 1400 Refillable Damper Cartridges + AUV Inks" or SKU: 1400 DSK 6-120. Also you should check the support section for articles and videos on installing the reset chip and the proper way to initially fill the cartridges.

I have an Epson 1400 and am using ink from InkJetCarts.us with good results. Their ink closely matches the Epson Claria ink used in the 1400. If you order their damper cartridges, a chip resetter is not needed as they provide auto reset chips.

I just received some Canon 220 and 221 carts that I ordered from B & H Photo. All carts still have the window. Also I just received a refurbished MX870 from Canon and the carts also had the windows.
