This is an ip5000 I had just received from an eBay purchase. It was working but the printhead seemed to be plugged(bad test print), so I had spent a few days cleaning a different ip5000 printhead (from a non-working ip5000) and installed it. After I installed this cleaned printhead I turned on...
It looks like it's just a power cord...and I plugged it into the ip6000D and it turned on and so far seems normal...haven't tried printing with it yet though.
I've found a source of refurbished print heads for my ip6000d, but it's been sitting a long time and I can't find the power cord. I have an ip4000 with a bad print head, so while I look for that one I'd like to fire up the ip6000d. Are the power cords/supplies interchangeable?
oops, I didn't see the post from PeterBJ before I posted. If there is no software limit, than it's more a matter of comparing symptoms to determine if the i865 print head has any chance of working in my ip4000. Currently, my printer is not printing in color, and is printing most of the time...
Sorry for the delay answering, car problems have sidetracked me. I've also been watching the local Craigslist closely for as-is Canon printers that use the same print head but no luck with that yet.
My print head weighs in a 2.2 ounces (62.3 grams). Could you figure out the postage cost, my...
Do you think the print head from your i865 might fool the ip4000 software limit? I'm in California, is there an inexpensive way to send it that far...
This software print head limit must be tied into some kind of print head identification, otherwise what would happen if I put a new print head...
Here's something interesting...I just discovered that if I print in draft mode and grayscale, the 5 orange flashes don't occur and I get a black and white print. Then I tried unchecking grayscale and I still got a black and white print. I then tried the same in Standard mode, both with and...
When I mentioned Chinese print heads for sale on Ebay, they are shown as authentic Canon print heads, even the boxes(or packaging) look original. But I'm wondering if anyone knows if these are knock-offs or the real thing.
I see the ip4000 print heads available from about $70 to $150. The $70 ones are from Hong Kong. Does anyone have an opinion about these Chinese print heads?
What exactly happens to a print head to cause it to go out suddenly? Are there wires that burn out, or could it also be something...
My ip4000 had been working fine since I put in 5 new original cartridges. Yesterday it refused to print and the power light started giving 5 orange flashes, then one green, the 5 orange flashes again...it keeps repeating this when it's turned on.
I pulled out the print head and looked at it...
This doesn't happen when I print a normal page but I just printed five envelopes in a row and every one has ink smears, not huge ones but just enough to affect a part of the return or the delivery address, or both.
Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening?

ghwellsjr, I received the needles. Thanks for making them available. And it sure is easier with the German method, fast and I didn't drip or spill a drop of ink anywhere. I'm sold on it!
Thanks for the information...I definitely injected ink into the sponge, didn't know that was bad. But that was on the first cartridge, and what do I do with it, how can I still use it? For the next try, I'll get out the glue gun. The plug on the second cartridge didn't feel that snug.
BTW...
I'm trying to refill cartridges for my Canon ip6000d, and Canon ip4000. I tried the German(?) way, which was hard because the needle isn't long enough to go all the way (horizontally) to the tank. And then couldn't stop the cartridge from dripping even after taping the entry hole. I then...
Am I correct that when I set the printing for grayscale, only the black ink is used? I'm asking because the ink is low or out in some of the color cartridges and the 6000D won't let me print. Shouldn't I be able to print in black and white...there is plenty of black ink.

I did the alignment the way you suggested, it's much easier to make the choices that way. Except for the first column, there was usually one (at most two) obvious choice. In the first column the rows were almost identical, perhaps the bars (or stripes) were slightly thicker is some, but all...
