The iP4300 should do great. Since it's the successor to the iP4200 which produced stunning output, you don't need to worry about any print quality issues. Additionally, the iP4300 is dirt cheap. Newegg.com has them for $89.99 with free shipping.
I don't think any consumer grade printer will handle the demands you are suggesting. While I'm a devoted fan of Canon inkjets, they are in no way up to the task of what you describe - and neither are any of the other readily available printers. Before you make the big leap, decide what type of...
What Websnail has come up with sounds plausible as it might be a cynical way for Canon to get out of a class action lawsuit stemming from the chipped cartridges. Canon could always claim the reason for a lockup is to prevent damage to the printhead since it would appear the ink usage based on...
Unless you've actually tried using the nylon screws that I use, there is no way for you to know if the threads seal or not. However, I have used both black steel cap head screws (which rusted) and nylon screws and neither has leaked on the well over 100 cartridges I've done. The threads which I...
What would really be good on refillable cartridges is a plunger type snap cap which is hinged on one side. If shampoo and ketchup bottles can have such a cap, so could our beloved Canon cartridges. Since those don't exist at the present those of us stubborn enough to use screws and o-rings will...
I've used Kodak Ultima in the past and despite what the majority of users will say, it is possible to get a good looking print from this paper just as you found out. Ultima is a swellable polymer paper which has better resistance to ink fading as a result of out gassing. OTOH, swellable polymer...
More than likely the black tank has an improper seal which is allowing it to leak excessive amounts into the sponge on the parking station which is then being wicked back into the other tanks. Another possibility is the presence of a bit of debris on the parking station which is causing the ink...
I've owned too many HP laser printers to list the model numbers and a Lexmark Optra S 1650 and my current Optra E312. Of the HP's I still have a fourteen year old IIIP which will probably never break. It's completely reliable, has good text quality and is slow as molasses. My overall favorite...
Can you provide a little more info? What paper and what paper settings are used, is the print grayscale or from color photos?
Did you make sure that the pigment ink was only used in the larger BCI-3 tank and not in the BCI-6 photo black tank? Another possibility is that either the yellow or...
I didn't notice any of the periodic cleaning cycles during the printing, but that may be a result of the deep cleaning cycle which I ran prior to starting the print. It's entirely possible the mini cleaning cycles Grandad mentions are what caused the pigment ink usage since I know that pigment...
I've seen numerous discussions about grayscale printing on the iP4000 and whether or not pigment black and/or photo black is used vs composite black from CMY. I hope the following clears up some questions.
Tonight I printed 13 sheets (all were 8x10) using Photo Paper Pro settings on my iP4000...
Recap the outlet port on the partially used tanks and secure them with a rubber band or tape. If you discarded the caps, duct tape should work OK for sealing the tanks. It would be a good idea to separate them in different baggies for storage. A paper towel slightly moistened with a little water...
That's true. When the envelope setting is used, the printer has a wider gap to compensate for the extra thickness and it should help with smearing. I don't use the envelope setting because it slows down printing when doing a large volume when the paper size doesn't match an envelope size, i.e...
I rarely bother with paper size settings. To the printer, everything is 8.5 x 11 and all I do is position my text frames or graphics to where it will print on the envelope, cards or any other odd size piece.
No problem at all. For mailing lists I normally use MS Publisher mail merge function with an Excel file as my data source, but Access, csv files, and others are also supported. For return addresses or only a few addresses I simply enter my data straight to Publisher.
If you look at this thread you'll see photos of cartridges converted to use nylon screws.

We tend to obsess over the right/wrong ways of refilling Canon BCI-3/6 tanks, but in reality the ink tank is nothing more than a plastic container. A...
If you are only planning for single side prints which will be under glass or in a display, any photo paper would be acceptable. I mentioned waterproof (a.k.a. nanoporous, microporous, instant dry) since I thought the cards would be subject to a lot of handling. The choice to make now is between...
With the Canon 830d and any other top feed model, the paper weight isn't very critical. The printers can easily handle thick card stock. The real problem with trying to print baseball cards will be finding a waterproof single sheet that can be printed on both sides. Most inkjet photo papers do...
Instead of blaming Canon for the failure, it sounds more like the generic black ink is the culprit. What brand did you use? Those of us who refill using any of the favored inks here (Formulabs, Image-Specialists/MIS and HobbiColors) haven't experienced the problems you describe.
