I agree that tank printers are becoming a better option for economical printing. Refilling a tank is easy and inexpensive, even using the OEM ink.
For those still interested in refilling cartridges, last July I posted a list of all the refillable cartridges currently available for currently...
Ink Owl in North America sells empty, refillable 702's with single use chips. The first set of 4 cartridges with chips costs $41.95. Replacement chips, needed for each refill, are $9.99 each or $38.99 for 4 chips (1 for each color)...
Refillable Cartridges for currently available Epson Inkjet Printers
Notes: This list only contains the cartridges compatible with at least one Epson printer that is still for sale per the Epson website in the USA. Prices for printers are from that website too unless otherwise noted and may...
Great advice, and I'd also include a sample with low quality 3rd party dye ink as another control so you know that the UV is sufficient to degrade at least some inks. If the low quality ink doesn't fade, you'd have reason to believe that the UV exposure (intensity, time, wavelength, etc.) was...
I have now had a chance to examine and test the valves that are part of the replacement covers or lids to make the HP cartridges sponge-less. They allow make-up air in but also maintain a negative pressure on the ink in the cartridge so the ink will not leak out, even without the capillary...
The list will be useful for me because I am doing a lot of work creating my own formulations. It's a big time-saver to start with empty cartridges. Actually I already have a list on an Excel spreadsheet but it's somewhat out of date as Epson discontinues some models and introduces others. I...
I was planning to compile a list of all the empty, refillable ink cartridges currently available for Epson inkjet printers, including details about available chips (ARC or single use), compatible printers, and approximate price. Before starting, I wanted to ask, does such a list already exist...
I'm curious too so I ordered the HP kit, https://www.bchtechnologies.com/mod...1-62-63-64-65-66-67-68-69-70-as-rfc-hpsq.html. When I receive it and figure out how it works I'll post. It may be a while since I have some travel plans in the near future.
Thanks for posting this offer. I tried it today (10/31/18) from the USA but there was no box to enter the promo code. However, customer service was very helpful:
B&H: Were you given a price match promo code?
Me: The code I was given was PPEBH18
B&H: That code expired on Monday.
Me: Ok, I...
One of the best explanations of how ink composition affects printing quality is in the book "The Chemistry of Inkjet Inks" edited by Shlomo Magdassi. In particular I recommend Chapter 7, "Formulation and Properties of Waterborne Inkjet Inks" by Christian Schmid.
There are a couple other things...
Josh,
It's encouraging that your "After" picture seems to show that fewer nozzles are clogged than in the "Before" picture. Part of the reason that the black is more faded, in other words more gray than black, could be that the ink from the black cartridge is getting diluted by the fluids...
Which specific Epson 5-color models have you tested? I've tested the XP-520, XP-610, and XP-620. With a test page of black text and various degrees of shading/grayscale I can print with clear only in the BK tank. With the clear in the PBK tank I can only print clear only using images that are...
It seems to me that the general approach to get black from only the pigment cartridge is to convince the Epson printer driver that what you are printing is not a photo. In your work with the XP-900 is the driver perhaps able to detect that what you are printing is a photo so it uses some photo ink?
I agree that using a clear ink is invaluable when conducting these experiments and that's what I did too. I found the same things you did that the paper setting changes the driver behavior, along with the color/grayscale setting and the "No adjustment" option in the advanced menu for color...
I've had some success in printing with only one cartridge and I hope you will find the following helpful. If you want to use only one of the color cartridges (C,Y,M) you first have to convert the image to use only that color. Here are the RGB values that correspond to these inks:
C: Keep G,B...
If you use a syringe with moonshine or other alcohols or solvents the lubrication on the rubber part of the plunger gets washed away and the friction goes way up. I've used a very light wipe of silicone oil to restore the syringe to working condition, but PG might be safer as far as ink...
