First of all I don't agree that ink is that cheap. If the waste ink collected from the printer is fresh and without exposure to atmosphere (drying up) for too long it is just a perfect source of free ink for drafting, proofing and whatever you name it. I won't waste my hard earned money when it...
I finally got K3 inks from Hobbicolors. I also purchased a set of 9 refillable cartridges from ebay for the R2880. I will soon find out if I am on a right course toward buying 9 liters of K3 ink.
These cartridges have built-in print heads on them. Canon printers with this type of cartridges are just like HP's that each time you install a new cartridge you get a new print head. This is the way to make more money out of you but it does keep you in a position that you always get new print...
My effort in talking to local inkjet refill shops searching for K3 inks suddenly has a hope. I called Hobbicolors and was told that they have K3 inks. But when I asked how I can buy some for testing they said it's not set up for retail. I described my photography printing project they said they...
Try to turn off the printer and unplug for a couple of minutes then plug in the power turn it one and see if it makes any difference. If this does not help you may still have small piece of paper in the printer that blocks the paper jam sensor. Use a flash light and check out carefully.
Great post, Pharmacist. This proves that high quality pigment color inks are not trivial to produce. I have been on a quest of searching for a K3 ink set for a R2880 for a photography project. I am not in a hurry. I am so glad that I get to learn your experience before making the decision...
It won't work unless you know how to modify the internal firmware to control the print head to use the ink appropriately. I don't know if it is possible because the printer's electronics is a proprietary architecture that no one other than Epson knows how to write control program for it.
I have...
The Y, LC, LM are still not perfect, not even close. But the strange thing is normally if it is a clog the LC and LM would be worse than CMY. In your nozzle test it is the opposite. Maybe it is the electronics in the print head that is already defective.
Pharmacist, you certainly are able to identify and pin point what the problem is. The swab test sure will get to the bottom of the issue. Please let us know what you hear from OCP.
One thing suspicious to look into is in the cartridge. I once tried to refill a R300 with pigment inks from a unknown source. The yellow was lighter than should have been. The print head wasn't clogged. It was the cartridge that did not flow ink well. It's a clogging in the cartridge and the...
Wow, I just found you beat me by a few posts earlier. That's exactly what I have been doing to my Canon cartridges. Well, I don't do it to every cartridge though. I only did it to cartridges with a sponge that did not absorb ink quickly.
Did you do anything to the sponge? The sponge is the problematic part of the cartridge. If you only drained the reservoir and refill it again it will not make any difference to the cartridge.
Whenever I purged Canon OEM cartridge with water I always had problems getting the sponge to absorb ink...
If the printer is a Brother the first thing to find out is if the OEM ink is dye based or pigment based. If it is dye based then you have a lot of Canon compatible inks to choose from.
When I walked into Rite Aid store last time I couldn't help buying a 1 quart bottle of Ammonia cleaner solution. It was less than $4 I think. I add it to my distilled water for cleaning print heads. Simply works and safe (save). I think it is harmless to our health because I can only smell...
Your problem is not the kind of general impression about Hobbicolors UW8 ink. Hobbicolors UW8 ink is known to be more saturated. I would pay some attention to the cartridges. You mentioned you purged the cartridges. This may be where the problem is. Canon cartridges purged with water can develop...
