When you replace the half empty cartridge with the full one, does the printer report a full cartridge? If it does continually monitor the actual level (and not the history of the level), why can't you refill the cartridge whenever it gets to 3/4 empty, and avoid the need for a chip resetter? I...
I assumed the printer just checked the ink level and continued to monitor ink levels as before once it's been refilled. Does the printer write to the chip on the cartridge to say "this one has been emptied"?
I've been trying unsuccessfully to repair my Canon ip4600 (). I have to decide what to do next and would welcome any suggestions.
When I joined this forum, I had zero interest in repairing printers or refilling cartridges. I just wanted a printer that worked. But I've had two Canon printers...
I've decided I've spent enough time trying to repair this ip4600. I really appreciate the help I've had from everyone here, and particularly ghwellsjr. This is a great web site.:):)
Now I have to decide what to do next, and I've asked for suggestions in a new post.
There was some ink on the nozzles, but not a lot. I dabbed the printhead on the soaked towel many times (about 50) until the colours were visible. There was an improvement in the magenta. See next post for the printout. I included the wrong one here
If you think it is worth persisting, maybe...
Yes, you are correct there is a difference between the original nozzle check and what I get now. There are now more fine bands at the top of the first magenta pattern. However, I can't see any difference between successive nozzle checks done now (i.e. a few minutes apart without doing any more...
Yes, well spotted. I did use the same scan in #13 as #1. However, I did this because it appeared the same as the most recent nozzle check after all the cleaing cycles shown below.
OK now I understand better how to check the screen, I put a drop on the cyan screen and it was sucked away but on...
ghwellsjr: Thanks for all your advice.
I have replaced 3 of the cartridges with emptied ones containing window cleaner as you suggested, and executed 4 cleaning cycles. I have replaced the magenta cartridge with another full one (though this is not an OEM one). There is no change to the magenta...

Thanks for the link to window cleaner in the UK - cheaper and easier for me to buy than isopropyl, apart from any doubts about the latter.
I already did deep cleaning from the printer maintenance menu, and it seemed to use about 1/2 of the color cartridges :( so I'm not sure I can do...
If I try to clean the printhead by dabbing it on a paper towel soaked in isopropyl alcohol, can I just use the isopropyl for this, or do I dilute it with distilled water?
Also, at the moment, I have a printer that prints greyscale OK, I don't need to print color that often, and when I do I can...
Actually, when I scanned the nozzle check printout to include in my post, the yellow was not visible, which it was on the paper. So I adjusted the scanner so the yellow did show. The black did appear black on the original.
Anyway, thinks for your reply. I'll try cleaning the printhead.
I have had an ip4600 for 9 months, and have been using Inkrite compatibles. Recently the magenta cartridge has stopped printing. I've run deep cleaning and replaced the cartridge with a new one, with no improvement.
Should I try cleaning the printhead next, or what?
I'm based in the UK and am...
