Anyone have any recommendations for shipping 13 x 19 photos/prints? I see mixed opinions all over the place on the dpreview forums; use tubes, don't use tubes due to curl, giant envelopes are fine, giant envelopes get all bent up in the system, etc.
Currently I have mostly Red River papers...
I left two 1400s unused this year, one with dye for 6 months and one with pigment 11 months (both Precision Colors ink). Both took some patience and cleaning cycles to get the ink going again but neither was difficult.
I would just try getting it running without risking overpressuring the print...
I'm disappointed in that review for MSE because I wanted to drop AVG. I've been using it for years but it got slower several years ago then got worse when they tried to make it Look Like Smartphone Software just like everything else is doing (desktops aren't phones). My whole reason for ditching...
I seem to remember a thread a little before the forum change where several people had their printer firmware upgrade without their knowledge because it auto-upgraded-and-installed if the computer was connected to the internet.
I can't remember what brand it was, but whenever one manufacturer...
It sounds like the ink system needs to be re-primed if there's no ink in the tube, but I believe these printers use thermal printheads, which can't be run empty...
At this point you're better off disconnecting from the internet before installing. If you can see a manufactured date on the packaging and it looks pretty new, you may want to dig around online and find older drivers for it. You need to do this to use the "break the length limit" hack for the...
I think some copy papers just have more of a coating... binder? Hmm, I don't know, 'sizing'? that makes them work better with inkjets. I also think (but have no proof) that this would also cause them to have more dusting, and therefore wear out toner drums and dirty feed rollers faster than...
You would have to ask your supplier. You should still try the ink you already have with different brands of paper just to see if another one works better.
I've always heard about MK/PK being different for black density on matte papers, but if sticking to gloss was an issue how come there aren't...
The 8X00 series printers have big cartridges (940/940XL) like that. Not that big but the same style with bag and such. I remember them not being so easy to refill, though I think the chip was a bigger problem than anything else. I think they are using 950 now.
I think that is bronzing, though...
That's very strange. I've used Everyday paper in a HP 8500A (940/940XL cartridges) which is pigment for all 4 colors and it worked fine. There were gloss papers that did not work, I think it was Staples' Basic paper, back when it used to come in a red box.
The only thing I can think of is that...
Bronzing basically means that if you print with pigments on glossy paper, then when you look at the print at an angle, the color will change and the photo will look weird. This is much less of a problem than it used to be. It still happens, but bronzing with inks a decade or more ago would...
At least for a few of them, they're not doing it on a home laser printer, they're going into one of the office supply stores and using their color copiers that are so ridiculously expensive even the store doesn't usually own them, but only has them on lease. I know because I see in their twitter...
Lately on some artists' websites I've been seeing comments about how their prints were made on a laser (or "LED") printer, and therefore have good fade resistance. I haven't really kept up with laser technology... every time I've gotten something printed out at an office supply store it's been...
The color gamut between pigment and dye is a lot closer than it used to be. The main issue with using pigment on gloss is bronzing (color shifting when viewed at an angle). Even this is less of a problem than it used to be, and Epsons with a Gloss Optimizer cart reduce it even more. This...
It's usually based on price. Cheaper printers tend to have the drum in the cartridge but this is not always the case. Full color lasers are more likely to have separate drums. Just look up the manual online or look for supplies for that model and it should tell you if the drum is a separate...
You may want to look into aftermarket carts, too. These days it's easier to search Amazon than to find the best deal amongst various websites. The first aftermarket cart I got on a refill website, one for $25. I even got 2200 pages out of 2000 rated on it before it finally gave up. On Amazon I...
It sounds like your toner cartridge has the drum as part of it? I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's when the drum is a separate replaceable part that I would be wary of doing too many cleaning cycles.
In the end it really comes down to whether or not if you don't do it, the printer's not...
