So why don't we just dial in sRGB

I think there's a bit of confusion here about how images are transmitted via the internet. The default colour space is sRGB but there is no limitation whatsoever on the colour space that you can use. An image consists of an array of pixels each of which has RGB values associated with it.The...

Epson 3880 uses different chips in USA and in Europe?

I'm glad that the process went well for you. You have to remember however that the OEM ink has to be flushed out of the lines and dampers before you actually start printing with the new ink. It takes quite a few mls to do that so you are probably still running on OEM ink. PK usage is usually...

My understanding too. Updating printer firmware is a strictly manual operation.

Epson 3880 uses different chips in USA and in Europe?

My testing was done on Harman Gloss Baryta, my preferred paper for B&W, using the ABW mode. Wth ConeColor I achieved a Dmax of 2.1 whereas IJF gave me close to 2.4. OEM PK can give you almost 2.6 on that paper.

Epson 3880 uses different chips in USA and in Europe?

I know that ConeColor has a very strong following in many quarters so I am probably swimming against the tide now; however, I thnk someone needs to redress the balance slightly. I switched to ConeColor in my 3800, largely because of the good things being said bout it, and used it for a year or...

    For The Hat

Can't compete with that (sitting outside a bar in France at the moment) but I can't leave @Emulator here on his own; so, here's one I just happen to have on my tablet.

A basic guide (see post #1) to setting up ARGYLL CMS profiling on your computer

From my experience I suspect that the i1Pro doesn't do too well with small patches in Argyll. With the xrite driver I can read 6mm patches but no chance in Argyll. If you are getting these big errors I think you can't win Re-reading doesn't help to improve the accuracy. If you have measured the...

Creating an excellent profile with i1Photo Pro 2?

I'm not suggesting that they would be offered as "generic" profiles - purely for research purposes, which is normally allowed by copyright laws...... however..... ...if the OP feels uncomfortable about sharing them perhaps he might like to do it via a private message.

Creating an excellent profile with i1Photo Pro 2?

Can you expand a bit on how you are evaluating the profiles and what leads you to the conclusion that they are not good enough? I take it that you are using a software tool for this, so what dE values are you seeing, and in what colours? Probably nothing at all. If I remember correctly the...

20 Years in 30 days fading test

In UK comics we have a character called "Roger The Dodger" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_the_Dodger) who uses an enormous amount of energy to avoid the most trivial of tasks. (He never succeeds!) A bit like people that want to save money on ink and then spend enormous amounts of time and...

So why don't we just dial in sRGB

I think @Emulator was referring to the measured colour gamut of the two printers rather than which gave the "better" print. From what I've seen, the gamut volume of the 3880 is bigger than the Pro-100 on glossy media. Whether or not the prints are better is moot, but I agree they are different...

So why don't we just dial in sRGB

Maybe this is simpler. I printed a section of the image three times on the same piece of paper. The first two are from the sRGB file and the third (bottom) is from the PPRGB version. This is a scan that matches pretty well what I see on the print.

So why don't we just dial in sRGB

Oh.... so I did get it wrong..... You asked in an earlier post "Has anyone a ProPhoto colour space file apart from the Evaluation test .tif?" I was sort of trying to answer that by showing a direct comparison of working in PPRGB and sRGB, starting with the same information from my camera. I...

So why don't we just dial in sRGB

Obviously needs a bit more explanation, but apologies in advance if this post gets a bit involved.... The image I included in post #10 was just a scan of two prints I made following the method described by Digital Dog. So, the prints were made from the two different colour spaces. The scanned...

So why don't we just dial in sRGB

I don't think OEM inks are necessary to exceed sRGB. Third-party inks on CD's are about as far removed from an OEM system as you can get, but they can still exceed sRGB by a big margin. It's all about making the most of what you have. No device gamut comes even close to the gamut of ProPhotoRGB...

So why don't we just dial in sRGB

I'm surprised that the 9000II is so bad. Virtually every (valid ) inkjet profile that I have generated over the years has exceeded sRGB in the green/cyan, and very often in the yellow/red too; and that even includes a lot of profiles for printable CD's, which are not the best media available...

So why don't we just dial in sRGB

I think a lot of people see Ken Rockwell as a bit of a photographic "shock-jock" - lots of strongly expressed opinions, but not necessarily a great depth of knowledge. As you're between jobs you may have time to listen to a different view on choice of colour space for printing. Andrew Rodney...
