I had to solder the power cable to the heat bed. I use this strain relief. It screws to the plate supporting the heat bed and holds the cable rock solid.
The Hobbyist license appeared to be just for a year, then you have to pay. I'm not sure I want to learn it, then be unable to use it after a year. Or have I misunderstood the terms of the account?
One of the first upgrades I did for my Anet A8 was strengthening braces for the y axis. Did it make any difference? I don't know. Maybe if I hadn't done it prints would have been worse.
The z axis supports improve the look of the printer. It will be interesting to hear whether they actually...
When I used to use sticks of glue at school it tended leave lumps. Is it easy to get a level layer on the bed when you use Elmers Glue Stick?
The great advantage I've found with hairspray is that you just spray it on thickly so there's a layer of liquid on the bed then to a large extent...
I'm in two minds at the moment on bed adhesion. On the one hand I was perfectly happy using hairspray on glass with PLA. However, I've now been using PETG on naked glass, even better. In general bed adhesion has been fine with PETG on glass and the prints came off easily when done.
However, I...
Must be due to all the Guinness that's around over the holiday season:D One thing I do is keep spools of filament in a vacuum sealed bags with some desiccant if I'm not using them - but then I'm not frequently changing filaments.
I'm not surprised you're giving up on PETG for the moment if you...
You were correct. I used the settings you suggested, and it worked first time.:)
I used a glass bed, no adhesive or anything, no brim. No problem with adhesion, when the print finished, I removed the glass from the bed, it cooled down quickly, and the parts came off easily with a slight twist...
Thanks. Maybe I should have a spare piece of glass before I start removing chunks of it:(
The first print will be better clips for the glass to the bed. These PLA ones do not retain their tight fitting on my heated bed at 50°C, and would be useless at higher temperatures. I'm also hoping the...
Those two prints look great. I can't get that smoothness with my anet A8.
I just put in an order for PETG from real-filament, but you've persuaded me to order a spool of midnight silver from 3dqf as well.
Has anyone used PETG much? Is it likely to take me a while to get the settings right?
Ditto.
I got frustrated with all the marketing emails from Gearbest and attempted to unsubscribe. It didn't have any effect, but maybe they've just eventually stopped emailing me when there's actually an important email I would have liked to have seen.
So, do you normally reuse the glue surface for subsequent prints. How many times can you do this?
Were you using the IKEA mirror mentioned in the video?
How did you measure this?
How do you take the temperature of the centre of the bed? I could stick my finger on the edges then the centre but I'd have to remove it long before I could detect any difference in temperature:hu
Also, does inserting a few pieces of foil really push the glass up...
@Redbrickman Sorry you're having problems with adhesion. I had similar difficulties the first few prints, then forgot about it because it's always worked after this. I think 3D printers are designed to give any starting a hard time initially, just in case they think it's too easy.
I'm using...
Printing parts, and occasionally designing parts myself to improve my Anet A8 is what I've enjoyed most. I think that enjoyment has been worth a lot more than 99 cents to me.
It's not clear to me what the upgrade does. Is it just replacing existing parts with similar but more reliable ones? Or is it improving the design, or what?
