    Insure proper ink tank venting

Canon ink tank vent on clear tanks #3, #5, #6, #8 and maybe others. Sometimes when using the German refill method the syringe needle will push the sponge tightly against the surface that separates the ink chamber from the sponge chamber and into the vent path along this wall leading to the top...

Storage Clips for Cli-8 anf BGI-5bk

If you mean the bike inner tube method, it works well on both sizes of tanks if the tube inner diameter is about 1.125 inches (29mm) and the wall thickness is about 0.035 (1 mm). If you read this thread from the start your question should be answered.

Update for your information. I have been using this "Tank Tube" storage clip method for about two years now for well over 100 refills. My brother has also been using this method for almost as long. Neither of us have ever experienced any problem of any type.

    Problems with black

The cleaning cycle created by the printer does a good job in most cases but repeated cleaning cycles uses a lot of ink which also loads up the waste ink pads and may reduce the useful life of the printer before pad replacement is required. I have been using an Out-of-Printer cleaning procedure...

cannon i560 bottom half of a pass across the page missing in black

You may still get some use from this printer if you select something other than plain paper from the "Media Type" drop down menu ( but keep using plain paper .... just fool the printer as to what you are using ). The pigment black will not be used then, and the dye based color inks will be...

Yellow ink turning solid in ink tank

The #3 and #6 tanks can be used interchangably ... at least I do that. There may be some slight ink change between the two original #3 and #6 tanks, but most after market ink suppliers refill with the same ink, and the tanks are the same. Also, if you have a #8 tank with a defective chip you...

Yellow ink turning solid in ink tank

An original Canon BCI-3eY used in my iP6000D printer had about 1/4 of the ink in the reservoir turn solid, or to a gel. The ink in the sponge seems normal and will wick into a tissue if touched. This tank had never been refilled, and was all original Canon ink. I don't know the history of...

How NOT to fail with the German Refilling method

I agree with post #12 by Redbrickman that filling a partially emptied ink tank is not a problem, for all the reasons he mentioned. There could be some problem resetting chips that haven't reached the empty signal yet, but I don't know about this, but it is not a problem with #3 and #6 tanks...

How NOT to fail with the German Refilling method

I don't agree with point number 1 about sealing the refill hole. I have refilled for over a year without sealing the hole, and now for about the same length of time sealing the hole. I never detected any problem either way... BUT... I now seal the hole because I'm concerned that since the hole...

Any updates on bicycle tube bands as substitute for outlet port cap?

I still find the bicycle inner tube method works very well for me, using the German refill method. I do not put the tube on untill the ink tank has been filled and left standing with the outlet facing down for a few minutes so the sponge can absorb whatever ink it will to bring the system into...

Cleaning Canon Printhead with Shop Vacuum

Cleaning a Canon Printhead using a shop vacuum cleaner. Some months ago I mentioned, in another post, using a shop vacuum cleaner to clean a printhead, but since a picture is worth a thousand words, and since printhead cleaning is such a frequently requested subject I thought another posting...

Storage Clips for Cli-8 anf BGI-5bk

I think I found the smallest size tube that would be acceptable with the narrow dye ink tanks, but not the thicker pigment black tanks. I had a twenty year old (new) tube marked 700 X 28C-32C and 27 X 1 1/8 1 that I bought at a yard sale for 25 cents years ago. This tube measures 0.75 inches...

Request for information; It would be helpful if the members that have tried this tube method would give information regarding the size of the inner tube they used. On post #6 I stated the tube I used had a diameter of approximately one inch. I remeasured more accurately and find the ID to be...

Storage Clips for Cli-8 anf BGI-5bk

Perhaps another photo will answer some questions. You can see how the rubber bike tube hugs the tank over the vent. You can also see the small electrical tape patch I put over the fill hole to eliminate any air getting sucked in during the purge cycle (just a little extra insurance). Of...

Storage Clips for Cli-8 anf BGI-5bk

There may be some misunderstanding about sealing the top vent. The top vent is only sealed when the refilled ink tank is being stored and before the ink tank is placed in the printer. When the tube is removed from the ink tank both the outlet port and the top vent is open, just as is the case...

Storage Clips for Cli-8 anf BGI-5bk

Time will tell! I have only been doing this for 7 refills over a week now but don't anticipate any problems with the venting. I fill using the German method but I always put a small electrical tape patch over the 1/16" hole used for refilling. I do this because I suspect some air could be...

Regarding a name for it; We have the German Method for refilling so how about "The Wisconsin Clip for sealing?. ":) I'm pleased to see all the interest in this very simple solution to sealing used and refilled ink tanks. I wish I had started a new post instead of just a reply to the "Storage...

Sorry about that ... it is the tube. Make one inch wide rubber bands and they snap on to provide a good seal. I have posted a picture. Hope you can see it here:
