Then how do you account for these available by the hundreds?

Just because it isn't a separate item 'supply' item like a ink tank, doesn't mean a user can't replace it. (I corrected my OP...
Mostly documents, color web pages (captures), some photos, drawings, charts etc. Yearly count; maybe 5k prints all together, scanning documents & hi-res color photos also. No faxing.
Admittedly, I haven't looked into any of those "tank/mega' printers, 22 years of refilling, I'm use to the 'old...
I'm thinking about a move to Epson, but my major concern are their locked out, non-resetable/ non refillable carts and printheads that can't be replaced.
I don't need or want the 'latest and greatest' models as long as the bulk ink, carts/tanks and printheads are available.
These models with...
Can their 822 carts be reset? I did a number of searches, but noting conclusive other than I couldn't find anything that says yes. :(.
If not, can these be refilled by 3rd party chips/cartridges?
The specific printer is a XP446
I wasn't, I just included that as a FYI.
I'm more interested in reducing these excessive cleaning cycles that seem to be using more ink that what I print. :somad
On a side note, from the ip4300 Manual on 'life' expectancy of that printer (note the number of years);
And before anyone asks, I've always have my PC equipment on a switched power strip, except for Modems & Routers that can be in use at anytime especially since I have VoIP phone service..
I have a ip4300 that I have had connected to a switched power strip alone with my Tower & monitor.
I thought I remember reading somewhere some time ago that that may affect the frequency of these (what I call) unnecessary cleaning cycles, especially the "deep cleaning". Anyone have any insite...
Regarding "OEM ink", other than color quality (which I assume is the biggest plus using OEM over generic), is there any other differences other than cost?
BTW, that was also on my list (or should of been), but for some reason wasn't. I see the shipping point for the US is Niagara Falls NY. :cool:
I did find some 'sources', but couldn't find anything that were actual recommendations. I surely don't want the 'cheapest', nor do I want the 'best'. Just something above average.
I mostly print off web pages & documents with some color graphics etc. Any larger jobs of text only I use my laser...
IIRC, this isn't new, I had trouble before.
Two months ago (give or take) I changed my email address due to a different ISP (the old one, I usd their email service so I had to), or tried to, but had issues logging back in. I never received notification to respond to the change and I couldn't log...
The delay in responding is from the lack of a email notification. Again/still !
If it was "starvation", they why would there be all that sludge on the ink pad? If anything it would/should be dry? The printing was streaked.
I use aftermarket as I have for years and I do refill. The nozzle check...
After a year of light use (around 1600 copies) printing mostly text documents and the rest web pages (little pictures/photos), I discovered a black 'sludge sitting on top of the larger black pad. It was causing streaking of the non pigment black showing up in non text (pictures within the page)...
Ok on the ink stored in the printer, it was just a thought.
Understood about Canon, HP & Epson heads. I ruled out Epson for that reason, it was never on my list. ;)
Yes, dye prints fad, that is mostly well known (to anyone that has had any experience in printing), but for printing other than photos, that is really a moot point. ;)
But , since you brought that up, having that much ink in the printer if you don't do really heavy printing, is that a problem...
According to this page; there are only three heads that include all colors;

The 713, 746 & the 711 (higher price). The two other I don't consider a option to replace due to cost (over $300)
Are there any printers that really give anyone much for the money? :rolleyes:
That should get one thru about a week of printing. I wonder how many after finding out how bad those are, buy that manufactures printer again??
That's somewhat good news that most have carts only. The question remains...
