The 3880 can print up to about 37 inches in length if you set it up in Custom Sizes in the Epson driver. I did one panorama a while back and it was about 36" in length, but I seem to recall it also affecting the width a bit with a larger white border on the sides (?).
Anyway, my normal print...
Personally I'd hold back on a 24" printer and see what Canon does with their newly announced models. All have 12 inks for larger gamut, hopefully user replaceable head or one you can access to flip over and clean it occasionally when they gum up under there. Their new 17 inch looks like a...
I'll add I just saw this stuff at the local artist's supply store the other day: "Golden's Mixed Media" pack.
http://www.goldenpaints.com/products/gesso-ground/grounds-for-digital-imaging/sets/digital-mixed-media-sample-set
Looks like it has some pre-coating stuff, and then a post printing...
On reading your blog, that photo of the top of the two pads of the capping station might be an indicator that something was leaking black ink as both are black. I think on mine from the monthly squirt cleaning, one of those two pads is often a magenta along with a bright yellow color on the...
ISF, is there any info on the boxes that tells where the ink was made? China or Japan?
Curious as I suspect Epson has been making their "better ink" in Japan, and the cheaper (fading) stuff comes out of other Asian countries. Maybe some sort of "Keep it close to home" idea where others won't...
Where do you buy propylene glycol (glycerol) and isopropylalcohol? Pharmacy? I could use a liter of each.
However, I wonder about ammonia though as it supposedly can etch copper and sundry non-ferrous metals that the heads may be made out of since they look sort of 'bronzy' under them. From...
I just tack the various inks, papers, and images made off them onto the fence in the yard. Not that scientific, but some really do fade in as little as 2-3 days. Mostly, the 3rd party inks. I often wonder how these 100-200 years claims are being made as none have lived that long so far. The...
Yeah, I think it really comes down to perception somehow -- along with all of your findings too.
Sometimes I think we dwell too much on the "Math of Inkology" and the straightness of the linearization line and its numbers, etc. More black is better. More white is better. OBA is bad. OBA is...
Interesting numbers now Ian. So it looks like you have a tint of green (a) and a tint of blue (b) in your three blacks.
More odd is that your numbers follow what I am seeing with the Epson Claria dye ink too in their black having a bit of a teal-green look as seen by either the i1 or...
Ian, how did you get your a & b values at zero out of the printer? I never see that from print-to-print as mine goes for a walk in the a & b values of maybe +/-0.1 at least. I never see "0" values that much. Munki on some B&W reading mode only?
Will.
I'm curious if things like the infamous "pizza wheel marks" off the 3880 on some papers during transport has been solved with the new feed system of the 800?
That and if they remedied the feed for canvas which is stubborn to say the least. I tried one of those taped leaders "once" and the tape...
I agree with ISF above. Too many variables come in along with the ink.
I have been playing with the Cone K7 Selenium and some Claria ink out of an airbrush onto Red River Metallic. That paper has an odd magenta carrier that seems to influence the L*a*b* values which makes a set tone of ink...
Interesting about it creating a reserved partition.
I was looking to buy 10 Pro since my 8.1 is really one screwed up mess with no hopes of getting the free offer of 10 unless I rebuild back to 8.0>8.1>10 plus all the sundry software re-installs, deactivations (PITA!), etc.
I was looking on...
@ Ink stained Fingers, I was just watching the video (mid-page) on Claria ink here http://www.epson.com.sg/epson_singapore/explore_epson/innovation/epson_claria_ink.page and it struck me that maybe what Epson is doing with their newest black ink you mentioned is possibly they've packed the...
I have QTR for the RIP and can change the *.quad files for QTR myself to alter the density. Just takes a spreadsheet and Notepad++ to do so, and a lot of test trials too.
The *.quad files opened in (freeware) Notepad++ identify the inks and you just have to change the values beneath them...
From my mixed Claria C7 inkset, the blackest Step 21 out of the printer reads L=11.486 a= -0.057 and b= -2.598.
The "airbrush sprayed" black ink (on the same RR Metallic paper) reads L=3.569 a= 0.443 and b= -3.917
Almost 8 points blacker L* value with an airbrush applied spot of same Noritsu...
I bought the 8.0 disk. Within a few months they updated mine to 8.1. So far, I haven't gotten the 10 notice and I doubt I ever will since something went askew in the 8.0 to 8.1 transition and mine hasn't upgraded anything since last year. Even the Mr. FixIt Tools and Restore doesn't work to...
The Hat, I do have more than the two 3880's. I have 6 printers in total (2 Canons, 3 Epsons, 1 Brother.). It's almost a playground, but still smaller than Jose R's printer playground. My paper stash is even worse for all the roll boxes too.
Will.
You are right that some cannot see the black differential issue, but I do! o_O
What bothers me more about it is that the i1 PhotoPro2 goes a bit batty when I hit Step 21 (Blackest step on my 21 step target) and the L values sometime reverse. Example: L* drops 20, 15, 10 and then back up to...
To answer why Dye vs. Pigment question, I use dye to allow for the metallic paper's aluminized (or gold in some cases) sheen off the base to shine through. Pigment cover's up the aluminized looking surface of the paper. Others claim a larger gamut than pigment too.
Remember the Candy Apple...
