I am listening, believe me. I DID inspect all the cartridges. I can't see anything that stands out, but I'm a newbie, so I don't know just what to look for.
I removed the printhead, that's easy. But now I can't find that stupid HOWTO telling you in which order to install the ink...
Okay, before I did anything, I did another nozzle test, and the yellow is coming out more yellow again. I wasn't thinking right (and kind of misinterpreted what you said) and I did one cleaning cycle. The results are basically the same as the first pages you saw in my earlier thread.
I didn't...
Stratman: Yes, with the colour mixture diagram it's very clear and easy to understand.
How do I, as per Hat's suggestion, wash the purge unit?
I do have one more old (never opened) cartridge-a Photo Magenta.
Wait, newbie question, but how likely is it that the purge unit is really dirty when...
Stratman/Peter:
All cartridges are genuine Canon and look like the ones posted in the photo.

"I would not use any of the cartridges that came with the printer as you have no idea their condition with respect to environmental exposure or age." Does that also include those that came...
Okay, wait...I just learned a few days ago an acquaintance of mine has an Officejet 8620. Would it be a good idea for me to borrow her print head with cartridges still in it, temporarily install it into my 8600 Pro to see if I could get it to work, or will that create problems ?
Thanks
I may be new here, so my opinion won't be worth much. But I'd love to see an area dedicated to 3D printing. Not doing so would make us kind of...one-dimensional...don't you think?
Hi everyone:
Well, this is embarrasing. After you all kindly advised me on my new (used) acquisition of an IP6600D with apparently minimal mileage on it, just last week in this thread...

Peter:
CD tray "C" ordered from eBay seller. Shipped today. I should get it in about 2 weeks, barring any problems with customers (who have not been fun the last year or two).
OH, yeah, there's no problem there. MSE found the infection and quarantined the file. TBH, I've had no need for MBAM...
PeterBJ: There was some conjecture that the tray "B" could work in some earlier IP6600 units (firmware 1.04) but not in later ones, with firmware 1.06. Don't know, as I ordered the tray C you folks linked to.
Which site was infected with a virus, cause I got a virus warning from MS Security...
Stratman:
Thanks. Bookmarked that purging site.
PeterBJ: I got the orange clips fastened on the old cartridges with rubber bands, thanks.
As to the plastic insert, I finally managed to remove that. It took a lot more force than I was expecting. I'm a bit puzzled by the design, cause it seems...
Well, I went to the damnprinter.com HOWTO in the Internet archive, as you folks suggested. Most of it is duplicated from other places, but the one thing I can't figure out is how to remove the plastic insert on the printer before I can make this work. I see it shown for a few other models, but...
Nah, that wasn't me. ;) Not yet anyways. A couple more questions that I didn't see answered already. Hopefully, I'm not overstaying my welcome. I'll try give back later.
I left the orange caps off the old 3 ink cartridges I replaced for a day and a half. The ink was years and years old and...
Peter:
Thanks for looking for me.
I'd prefer to do buy one ready-made. I'm quite overwhelmed lately and don't have time for many more projects.
As for the orange caps, I'd better go fish them out of the recyclying bin, if they're still there. Putting them on with rubber bands sounds very...
You all are amazing. What an adventure and it's starting to look successful. Hat: Will those links also tell me where to buy the necessary gear/supplies (not just the ink)?
Does anyone know an Ebay or other seller in North America with a reasonable price on the CD tray? The most common seller...
Hat:
Thanks. I think you misread my earlier post, though. I'm going to get a FULL Genuine Canon cartridge right now at Staples. Then, if all goes well, and things print fine for a while, I'll eventually buy my fresh cartridges from that eBay seller I mentioned. I'll follow half your advice on...
Stratman:
Yes, it does appear to look good. Thanks for that. I'm not likely to refill, even though the printer now needs a new black cartridge. They are in the clearance bin at my local Staples for $CAD 14.99 which is cheap enough for me that I'll pick up one, install and try it. It appears...
Alright, well I took some time and a big gamble today. I picked up that IP6600D. I did another test page.
I got similar results to the first one I posted above.
I immediately replaced 3 of the ancient cartridges with sealed ink cartridges, although the sealed ones were very old too (2007)...
Well, I have to disagree there. I find the positive reviews are often a joke, but the negative reviews pretty much always, in my experience, have some validity. And even if they're exaggerated, they give me an idea what kind of problems I might encounter.
A lot of IT people use Newegg as a part...
Thanks again, Peter. That's interesting info. I typically read some reviews on both Newegg and Amazon to get a feel for general reliability (barring newbie ignorance) and things like ink usage. The PGI-200/CLI-221 series printers you mentioned, and a couple of others, typically get 10-15% lower...
